Movie Review: World War Z

Sep 18, 2013 02:06

A few years ago Max Brooks wrote a book called World War Z, a multi-POV chronicle of the world struggling in the aftermath of the zombie war. It's raw and creative and all around awesome. I highly recommend it.

The World War Z movie has the same title. And that's about it.

It IS a pretty good Left 4 Dead movie, though. )

someone get on this, movies

I really loved WWZ; I hope they make it into a movie someday. The mockumentary format would work really well--lots of opportunity for handheld-videocam headshots to melt into "live" reenactments of whatever the people are talking about, even with voiceover, it could be cool.

This movie, however, appears to be Brad Pitt vs the Zombies, and while there's nothing inherently wrong with that, it's not World War Z. Based on this review, I think I'll catch it on Netflix at some point.

I thought WWZ was a pretty good zombie story -the Israeli soldier was my favorite too-, but IDK why they'd license the title for a movie with literally zero things in common with the book. The only thing that bums me out about it is that I presume it's less likely now that they'll make a more faithful adaptation. I think it would be hard to condense the book into a movie, but I'd love to see an anthology series.
