New French interview with Wentworth, Sarah, Dominic and Robert. I don't think it's spoilery, more to do with the shows run and if this season is the last. Link and ramblings under the cut.
I feel bad saying this but I agree. Like you I am a bit shocked and I probably have to let it sink in. I perfectly understand his motivation and although I am having trouble letting go I do agree that it is best to leave on a high note but what bothers me is the way he says it. I can not put my finger on it but I am getting a negative vibe from him and I don't like it. The others are much more diplomatic about it. I can not imagine for a second that his heart is not in it anymore so I am hoping he was having a bad day.
It's surprising isn't it? I mean there's candid and then there's candid. We've never seen him like that in an interview before and you got it exactly right, it's something I can't put my finger on. Never seen that kind of negativity from him before, it just leaves such a horrible taste in my mouth.
And then at the opposite end of the spectrum was SWC who did voice that this would be a more appropriate time to end but didn't completely close the door on the show.
Well, for what it's worth, when I first watched it, I got the impression that he was disenchanted with TPTB, not with his role in the show. I think he takes his portrayal of Michael very seriously, and he doesn't want that characterization diluted by stretching it too thin over (perhaps) one too many seasons. He seemed protective of both his own integrity and the show's.
Maybe that's just me, but he's always spoken boldly against the 'business' side of Hollywood, and this feels the same to me. He did sound a bit bitter...but again, I direct that at TPTB.
He's never spoken too fondly of TPTB, especially after S3, so I think you may be right. He has every right to want to protect the integrity of him and the show. Still, I was a bit shocked to see this at first.
A lot of people think that high note was the end of S2, so I feel grateful that we got more time with them than anyone anticipated.
I think Went is smart to say this because hopefully it will influence TPTB if they are not already on board with it. Dom has been saying it for a while, that this is all about money, and now that Went (the bonafide star of the show) is saying it, hopefully that will nail the coffin shut. I pray it will. This needs to be the final season just so I don't have feel like an idiot for still watching it.
On the other hand, I can empathize with how you're feeling. Last season when I worried they wouldn't come back from a short season, I felt the same way. I was not ready to let them go. Now, I'm ready, but more importantly they're ready. I hope that is the general consensus only because I can't imagine how bad it would be if their hearts were not in it.
Oh I definitly think the high note was the end of season 2. Apart from the most recent episode, I haven't enjoyed the show the same way (except for my shippy scenes) since 2x22. I agree it's best for this to be the final season but I've never loved a show this much. It's just so...habitual for me to watch and fangirl, and I don't think I could let that go. I SO don't want to let the fandom go.
And yeah, I don't know if I could bear to see the actors with their hearts not in it.
I wasn't shocked by Went's response at all. In fact, I appreciate how honest he is. He did seem to be in a crappy kind of mood though, poor boy. Must not have had his SaraH fix for the day. *giggles*
Seriously though, I think this should be the last season. I think they've carried this story as far as it needs to go, and I'm excited to find out how it's all going to end.

Yeah, he's just mad he didn't get to see her in her see-through top!
I absolutely agree this should be the last season for the sake of the story and the shows integrity but as a fan, it's still not nice to hear one of the stars say so too.
I didn’t find his words hear that shocking, but maybe that’s because I’m used to the idea that Wentworth is over Prison Break. I’ve gotten that impression for a while now… and I find it somewhat disheartening.
This is what really got to me:
“I personally feel like I’ve gotten everything that I need to get from this experience.”
I understand what he’s trying to say there, but for some reason I really didn’t like hearing it.
I still love him to bits, but I try very hard to look at things objectively… I’d like to think that I’m not one of those fans who constantly feels the need to make excuses for someone’s attitude or behaviour, and no matter how much I adore Wentworth, he is not immune to this. He is a wonderful actor and seems like an intelligent and genuinely thoughtful man, but sometimes he says and does things that make me want to slap him and say “SUCK IT UP, BITCH.’
I've gotten that impression too, from the end of season 3 really. It's not nice to hear is it? I think it's just because we've never really heard him talk like this in an interview before, he is usually a little more...sensitive to the fans I think. Maybe he was having a bad day, and like it was said upthread, maybe he is just disenchanted with TPTB, not the show.
TBH, Im not that impressed with the Usually Charming Mr Miller. He has a bitterness there, and my initial response to this is to taste that bitterness too. It's a bit contagious
I think I am too used to him being unflappable and totally savvy about public perception, and this is really being too hard on the poor guy. Look, Im not surprised, and I have lots of respect for the beautiful one as an actor, but my INITIAL response is meh
And it's not about wanting to let the show go from my POV, it's more about the flavour of his words.
I hope I'm not being too hard on him, I was a just a little 'jeez man' after hearing the way he was talking. There was bitterness there for sure, but like Amy said, it's probably directed at TPTB and not the show itself.
Oh well, at least he said he would miss some of the people he worked with. I wonder who he could be talking about there? *scratches head*

Just my 2 cents.
