'but it makes me question what the whole point of the crash landing was anyway?'

I imagine something like this: "We've already rendered the scene with animated acting and music to go along with it. It's content, leave it in."

I daresay you're right! It just makes it feel a little less polished than it could have been, to me... but maybe it would be hurting their artistic integrity to take it out. ;)

What really threw me about it, is that it's structured and feels like the end of the cutscene - which is was originally - but then the game keeps on going to more endings. Using Destroy as an example. The Crash, Anderson's speach, The Breath, Stargazer. So many endings!

But that's just me nitpicking.

Garden planets with just the right conditions seem to be rare, so if it's actually a planet they never discovered, I wouldn't be surprised that they logged the coordinates and sent a colonization team.

despite the BioWare team saying that you need to play through from before the Illusive Man's base, there is in fact no point as far as I can tell.
I didn't see any new content either but apparently the reason for the earlier re-load is the adjustment of assets so that multiplayer no longer factors in as much so people can achieve better endings with less assets. If you re-load after the base then assets don't get re-caculated properly so people might not get as the ending them want.
I like your idea about Shepard having a choice about going back to get the squad - I think the reasoning behind Shepard always rescuing them was logically a Commander would bring his most trusted team along to such an important mission, so it's likely Shepard is going to care about the squad members that he brings along.

I agree that Shepard would probably bring his/her most trusted team, and would care about them... but when his/her one mission is to reach the Conduit... would s/he go back for his/her team?

I'm not sure my Shepard would have.... even though she loves Garrus. Having said that, I don't really have a problem with the scene - it was sweet and I love more animated content. I just questioned whether it would be entirely in character for all Shepards to (temporarily) abandon the mission to save their friends.
