Life is grayscale

Okay, so this is going to come off really corny, but I miss my mom.   With the death of my coolest uncle and lots of extended family drama (which I abhor), I am just needing mom-time immensely right now.

In light of this, I decided to pick up some Rolling Stones.  They are still my mom's favorite band and one of my earliest musical experiences.  So ( Read more... )

Just like there is "comfort food" which reminds us of nicer, safer times in our life, there's definitely "comfort music" which works for exactly the same reasons.

And man...I miss Manray *sigh*. Haven is okay, around these parts, but it's really tough to go clubbing on a Tuesday.

Nicely put :)

The club scene has definitely dies right down. It's sad and makes me feel old...

Why thank you. And yes. I don't know whats up. The Golden Age of the 1990's is sure dead and gone, that's the truth.

On a related note, I've started listening to a band that I'm liking a lot that you should check out called The Birthday Massacre. Industrial neo-Goth, a little bit like Kidney Thieves, although their lead singer has a more whispery voice, not the real soulful pipes that Free Domingez can crank out. It's good in that it reminds me of the sort of Goth music that came out during the hay day, as opposed to the more modern junk which I don't really quite get as much.

My brother just got me into the Birthday Massacre. they are fantastic :)

If you want something a bit more EBM and dark, check out Unter Null.

I totally agree that there is just some music that brings you right back to childhood. As I was reading this I was thinking about how I loved to listen to the Moody Blues and Beetles as a kid. I also remember listening to Beethoven's 9th as our house cleaning music and Carl Orf's Carmina Burana. I still listen to these things and they do often bring me right back home.

Speaking of the Beetles, if you like things like Moulin Rouge, check out Accross the Universe. It is amazing. Dave got it for Andrea for her birthday and we were blown away. Also, if you are interested in some other interesting musics....check out Abney Park and Vernian Process. They are two steampunk inspired bands I ran into a while back.

Music and memories go hand-in-hand.

I have a copy of Across the Universe, but I haven't watched it yet. Clearly I need to as I am a huge fan of the Beatles as well. The steampunk inspired bands have definitely piqued my interest...
