You Know What to Do
It's just not working. He has once again tried very hard, which is plain for all to see, yet it seems that the more he tries the worse he fails.
There used to be a time when things were different, he remembers with a touch of sadness. A time more simple. A time not riddled by past mistakes, a very easy, sincere time when all he did was what he could do, and that at least he could do well.
Now that a lot of time has passed things have turned diffrently. Finland always felt uncertain in the presence of countries older and wealthier and once they all gained some interest in him he was probably stung even deeper by his eternal wish of being accepted. It's for that that his clothes are now different, that he learned how politics work. It's thanks to that that he became so rich and educated his people so well. It's also why he bought all those books full of foreign recipes, none of which he can turn out in a fully edible form.
Sweden sighs. Indeed, things were a whole lot better when all Finland has was a fire and some fresh fish. Yet he knows one truth about time and that is that it cannot ever be turned back. It can only make things grow to their limits. One can but surrender to it and try to steer one's life towards a safer shore. Sweden puts his fork back down, wipes his mouth with a napkin and makes a solemn promise to himself that next time he'll do the cooking.
