His head hurt as he rolled in his bed. He'd had too much to drink, and the barracks smelled like...he wasn't sure. It was strong, like someone had smashed a bottle of solvent on the floor.

"Akdn'khhe, aodt arg're," he slurred and rolled over, crushed his face against his pillow. He couldn't get back to sleep, the stink of it was in everything, ( Read more... )

Helen was walking back to her quarters from the mess hall when she rounded a corner and ran smack into a young man heading fast the other direction.

Or, more accurately, he ran into her. Helen stumbled backwards, the wind knocked out of her, luckily hitting the bulkhead rather than the floor.

She pressed a hand to her torso, eyes wide with surprise, and gasped for air as she stared at the young man. A Vulcan, running along the corridors?

Nohhua fvadta, this place was crawing with lloann he'd had to backtrack and run a maze just to avoid them and now he was plowing into hevam civilians. The woman he'd crashed into was against the wall, looking more startled than afraid or injured. He stared and backed up--she didn't have a comm badge, or a disruptor.

"Au a--" He paused, no, Lloannsu. "Where is here?" He asked quietly, urgently. He didn't want to hurt civilians, he'd be dragged across the yard for just talking to one instead of continuing on, but he didn't know where he was going. The layout of this place was all wrong, nothing like the charts he'd learned.

Helen caught her breath and pushed herself away from the wall, keeping her movements slow and her posture nonthreatening. Whoever this was, he was clearly afraid, and she didn't want to do anything that might make him take off again.

"Here?" she repeated. Did he mean the starbase, the corridor...of course. She knew all about the people suddenly appearing from other universes, but she'd never actually witnessed it before. She smiled reassuringly. "Not where you're expecting to be?"

She was smiling. It took him a moment to understand what she was saying, lloannsu was very round about. He moved back when she moved forward, he didn't want to knock her out, but he might push her back against the wall if he had to run again.

He swallowed and tried to remember. "Here, here," he repeated, "Where am I. Where are...heira, uh...Shuttles. Exit? I want to leave here."
