Okay. Well. It's November. Dear Gods, kill me now. Hates November. Hates it forevers. On the plus side, it has been a remarkably mild November for the state of Nebraska weatherwise. Or, at least it was. The last two days have brought in the cold, grey, icky, half-assed-drizzliness-that-may-or-may-not-become-snow that characterizes November ( Read more... )

Reminds me of something I read in a fantasy book, where one race of immortals was born essentially comatose and brain-dead until the wife of the castelord took them down to caverns beneath their citadel to an underground lake, and gifted them their name, which brought them to life.

(Also, isn't the Greek word for air close to 'spirit'?)

And, you're right. This would make a good manga, but it would need to be expanded with dialogue and stuff.

Well, Lucian did it first. XD

Actually, the Greek word for "air" is... "aer." As in atmosphere. Usually it shows up in the dative "aeri" or part of a compound word. Phonetically, they're identical. Although, I think in one of the case forms (I want to say genitive? I know it's an irregular declension), it becomes something that looks a lot more like "aether," which is another Greek word which technically means the "upper, purer air" which in Homeric Greek can also mean "clear sky" or "heaven." I think the word you're thinking of is probably Latin, which provides the root for words like "respire."

And, yes, yes, yes, this is SO begging for a visual interpretation. But definitely needs to have some embellishments on it, because it's not particularly exciting plot-wise. Maybe an adult picture book otherwise...?
