In my fairly extensive experience with corporate America CEO's are like schools of fish. One changes direction and every other one follows. Everyone is so concerned about not missing out on the latest trend that the end up floundering about. A good example is "Web Services" that was the big thing a few years back and was supposed to solve ALL the problems of corporate IT. Yeah, not so much. What it did mean is that my staff of 12 that was responsible for $100 million dollars every year ended up getting cut down to 2 (and the business dried up) meanwhile, the new product had 150 people on (including 10 of my people) and LOST $10 million and is still losing money 4 years later. I'm not bitter at all. Of course, I've seen similar things happen at 4 other companies...
