At the least, it's an amusing place to "watch" human nature.

What's the brand/model of your crock?

All I'm picturing is a pressure cooker gasket (http://www.fagoramerica.com/fagor/accessories.htm)(scroll down to "silicone gasket") but I'm thinking that is not what you're looking for...

Is it like a canning gasket? but bigger?

With the name of an item that comes with what you're looking for, I could probably find something. Without a picture in my head, I can't figure out what the keywords would be.

Yeah, I suppose that would be helpful, eh? It's Plow & Hearth. http://www.plowhearth.com/product.asp?pcode=4455&crs=4834&ref=product

hrm, that looks like a specific enough thing that you might need to get a replacement from the manufacturer (assuming it came with the rubber seal piece). Have you tried contacting them?

They don't list replacements as available--I haven't asked directly, but you're right, I should. It just seems to me that it shouldn't be that specific. It's the same damn thing as s our sugar canister, just a different size. Ah well.

I think you could probably get what you need at the hardware store, or an automotive store.

Thanks for all the ideas!

So the good and easy thing, which I should have tried first, as many people have pointed out, is that Plow & Hearth is just shipping me one. (They want to keep getting my replacement filters orders, I figure.)

I'm still curious to poke around, as vfrride suggests, and see if these things are sold on their own somewhere and what they're called when they are. Just because it seems like it oughta be true.
