Very good piece. Yes, I'd vote for it. (And if Metroland would only publish stuff with immediate permanent links, I'd try to get some other folks in the blogosphere interested in this.)

if Metroland would only publish stuff with immediate permanent links,

If only I could explain to you how long and hard I tried to get that. Suggested, gently but persistently reminded, harassed, specifically mentioned they would get blogged more... For a while the archive link was live immediately, if you knew how the url pattern went, though there were not links to it. But even that isn't happening now.

i agree completely on the class divide. i wrote something political in february, which chris weigant saw fit to publish as a guest column at the huffington post. it was insane having to write and edit it all in one day, but i thought it came out alright. like most of your 'creative class,' i voted for obama, but i do still like clinton, and at the time i wrote it i still held out hope that she'd take her campaign in a more positive direction. if you take a moment to read it, let me know what you think.

Really nicely done! Well reasoned and solid. I'm no fan of Clinton's but I can actually imagine such a move making a pretty serious difference in my perception of her, so I imagine your predictions about its ripple effects are likely to be right on. Perhaps you missed your calling as a political strategist?

thank you mir, coming from a writer and activist of your expertise i take that as high praise indeed. i have a friend who actually does do political strategy, and his philosophy is to focus fewer resources on media and more on calling, canvassing and data analysis; winning votes one household and one neighborhood at a time. i guess teaching civics has made me more politically aware in general than i used to be. but let me tell you, it's really a different universe down here in miami.
