~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~CHAPTER 5~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The fourth morning she was staying in the hospital- November 4th.
The girl blinks and stretches, the same routine as always.
Living in the hospital has almost become bearable. Almost. Although she still wasn’t used to vending machine food, it’ll have to do if she will ever manage to pay off the hospital bill.
Funny how the doctors still haven’t informed her of the sums so far though. She shuffles to the bathroom to wash up. And again, for the third time, the door opens, revealing a disguised Yoochun.
“So this is the room the guys were talking about. Ah, that must be one of the girls Junsu saw that day. Strange, she looks familiar…anyway, guess I’ll go hide behind the curtain like the others did. Honestly, this reminds me of James Bond for some reason.”
Shaking his head, he hides behind the curtain then leans his head back against the wall. Through the side of the curtain he sees a figure once again coming out and sitting next to the pale, unconscious girl.
He squints closer at the girl sitting in the armchair and suddenly he opens his eyes wide in amazement.
The church…the salon across the street…the two girls coming out of the salon...that was them!
“O-Omo!” Chun thinks.
This time though, the girl doesn’t take out her laptop. She groans and, holding her head says to her friend, ‘I’m sorry, but for now let’s not watch ‘Come to Play’…I’ve gotten a headache…later on we could watch the part where Micky’s pupils dilate and the others talk about it…that was always your favorite part”
Yoochun thinks “…my eyes are dilating right now, looking at you!"
She grasps her friend’s hand and softly says, “When will you get better? When will you get up? I miss you, please wake up soon…when you get better we can go places and have fun again”
Just then the door opens and a doctor comes in, eyes darting to and fro before finally settling on the girl in the armchair.
He speaks in rapid Korean, “Hello, I believe you’ve been here for a few days?”
“Yes.”
“Well, according to my…sources…you’re almost living here right, judging from the luggage here.”
“Yes I am, is there a prob-”
“There is, there is a problem. A big problem.”
Yoochun twitches. “I don’t like the sound of this guy…”
“By living here, you’re depleting our source of finances as well as violating one of the hospital rules- visitors only and at a certain length of time. You’re making us waste money that could be spent on other patients rather than yourself.”
“What are you saying sir? I-I’m sorry but I beg to differ. The only thing I do here is occasionally use the bathroom and go to the cafeteria or vending machine and get food. The rest of the time I’m sitting quietly beside my friend. If anything, I’m helping you to give you business by paying for my food here. I’m not trying to be a burden… really.”
“Very well, that may be so. However I have this contra-paper that sums up all the costs of your friend so far…sign here please…”
“Oh, this is all in Korean though- do you suppose you can transl-”
“I already said this is for your hospital fees! Come now and sign the contract please!”
The girl confusedly looks from the contract to the doctor to her friend. She’s confused and doesn’t know whether to sign or not. Something tells her not to, but if she doesn’t, then what?
“This isn’t right…doctors aren’t supposed to just hand contracts over to patients like that; they’re supposed to sit down and discuss with the insurance! This guy really…I’ve got to do something…”
With that, Yoochun takes a deep breath and steps out from behind the curtain.
“Wait a second,” he says.
Both the girl and doctor turn around with shocked expressions.
“Let me see that contract!” Chun says and grabs it from the doctor’s hands.
Skimming through it, he exclaims “This isn’t a ‘hospital bill’ paper- this is a paper owing $200,000! What kind of person would do this?!?”
He glares at the ‘doctor,’ who backs away and runs out the door, only to be caught by the security. Yoochun silently gives the security the piece of paper and they take the man away.
Then, he turns to the girl, who’s still shocked and frozen at all that happened.
He approaches her and says, “I’ve had enough of this…you’re coming with me! Get your bags!”
“W-wait, who are you? I mean, thank you for helping me just now but why- how?”
“I’ll explain everything later. For now, come with me. It’s about time you lived regularly again, not sleeping in an armchair staring at the same four walls every day.”
“Wha-?!? You…how…” she trails off.
He looks at her and softly says "I’d reveal my identity here but… I can’t. All I can say is trust me for now.”
Saying this, he takes the luggage without waiting for her answer and, taking one last long look at her friend, the girl can’t do anything but grab the other bags and silently tell her friend she’ll be back and follows Yoochun to the elevator.
After taking a taxi, the two are soon at his apartment. As they take the elevator up, the girl’s mind is running like a machine gun.
“Why did I let myself be brought this far? What if he’s lying? What if he’s conspiring with the doctor? Then what do I do? I guess I could always swing a duffel at him and scream for dear life. But what was with his whole ‘you know me?’ And why does he have to hide?”
“Hey, at least could you give me a clue about your identity? Like a name perhaps?” the girl asks without realizing she was speaking in English.
Yoochun blinks. “…then…in that case…ahh…‘Micky’… ” he answers in English as well.
“Hmm, ok…” she begrudgingly agrees.
He smiles. In Korean, he softly answers, “Trust me, you’ll know who I am…in a second.”
“Is he some sort of long lost family? Or is this a tv show that I don’t know about yet?” she thinks.
His mind is also flying right now, thinking “Ahhh what did I do? How’ll she react? How’ll hyungs react? I should’ve told them before…ah whatever, what’s done is done…hope she won’t faint dead away or go nuts…oh God no…well, here’s our stop…now or nothing…”
They both step out of the elevator onto the floor. A single, solitary door faces them, as the girl looks up and down the corridor. But nope, there’s only one door- the one in front of them.
‘This is ominous…’ she thinks.
“Hey, is this like the penthouse in disguise or something? Must be a big apartment if the entire floor is yours…” she says to Yoochun.
He chuckles. “No no, it’s not the penthouse….you’ll…find out soon enough.”
He reaches for his keys and opens the door, his heart rate suddenly speeding up.
“This is it…” he thinks.
They step into the little entrance room which has all the drawers and cabinets for holding coats and shoes. Leaving their shoes at the door way, as they’re changing into slippers, she says to him, “Well, I don’t know what to say except…thank you. Yes, thank you Micky ssi-AAAAAHHHH!”
At that second a fuzzy blur bolts for her and pounces on her. As she falls she reaches out to grab the door frame to break her fall, but the object on her is too heavy. Yoochun, seeing her suddenly lurch back and thinking she was going to fall, immediately drops the luggage and holds his arms out, ready to catch her.
The girl's hands slip and she instead falls on the floor, landing on her butt with a big, furry, happy dog panting and licking away at her face. The girl starts laughing as she tries to push the dog away to no avail.
Meanwhile, Yoochun is left standing in his weird, “ready-to-catch” stance. He soon snaps out of his stance and thinks “Ah, that must be Yunho’s do-” but is cut off.
“Oy! Taepoong! What’s the matter with you? Why’d you suddenly run off! Come back here!” Yunho’s voice is heard.
“Micky ssi is this your dog? Ahaha stop, stop already! Didn’t know you had such a friendly dog…” the girl rubs the doggie's head.
“H-hyungs, hyungs I’m back!” Yoochun’s voice wavers.
‘Hyungs?’ she thinks but goes back to playing and petting the dog.
“Ah Micky, Micky’s back!” Changmin says and soon a stampede of feet is heard coming towards them.
Yoochun swallows. ‘Oh God…’ he thinks.
“Hey, Taepoong, where are you boy? Come here!” Yunho yells.
“Is that his name? Taepoong?” the girl asks, smiling and looking up at Yoochun.
Seeing him not respond and stare in the direction in front of him, she also turns to see what he’s staring at.
The smile vanishes from her lips as she stares wide-eyed at Changmin, Jaejoong, Yunho, and Junsu, who stare down at her just as dumbfounded.
A heartbeat passes. She blinks, Yoochun sighs, the dog barks happily.
“O..m..o..” she murmurs.
