~~~Chapter 28~~~
“I’m glad I died...” Soo Young says, maintaining a serious face. “I’m glad I died...”
Min Ri stares, shaking her head out of her momentary shock.
That statement from her friend caught her completely by surprise. She glances again at Soo Young, seeing that serious face still hasn’t left her face. No, she couldn't be serious, right? After all, no one would seriously wish they were better off dead...
“Wh-what??” she can only repeat again.
Soo Young sighs. “Please do not make me repeat what I said before...I guess it’s time I explained it all. It’s not a pretty story. . .”
“I had heart arrhythmia as a child. It was a reoccurring heart problem in my family. Usually it would be harmless but sometimes, given some circumstances, it could prove fatal.“
“So...that would explain...” Min Ri mutters half to herself.
“How my parents died when I was still very young and left me? Yes, you’re right. Heart arrythmia is known for causing sudden deaths in extreme cases.”
“Whenever I got too excited or shaken up” she continues, “my heart would beat haphazardly and immediately palpitations would occur. Even at times when I’m fine my heart would suddenly lurch with a strong beat and my heart would suddenly hurt so I could hardly breathe."
"Why did you never go g-"
"Get checked out?" Soo Young smiles softly. "I did. Before I met you. It didn't do any good. They just told me to keep away from hard labor and not to put myself frequently under stress...which you know was impossible at the time since I was going to school and working to pay the apartment.
Up until the week of our vacation here in Seoul I was feeling increasingly tired and fatigued. A part of me knew it had to do with this problem and, knowing my family's history of this, I've mentally prepared myself since long ago.
But I just prayed it wouldn't happen around you, Min Ri. I didn't want to see you worried and hurt over my condition. You are a dear friend and I know no matter what pain I feel, you feel it tenfold, which is also why I hid this from you until now. I guess after praying every night for a solution, that accident was meant for me. I felt no pain, none at all. It just hurts me to see you here going through this, mentally and emotionally, when it is in no way your fault. So...that’s why I’m glad I died.”
“You...you’ve never told me? I don’t believe this... all those times we laughed together, had fun, like that time at the amusement park, I had no idea...and I kept pulling you to go on and on,” Min Ri has a look of horror. “And you...you looked fine all those times...oh God...”
“You learn to ignore pain and live for the moment when you’re with someone you love. Having a friend is a priceless treasure, regardless of the pain” -here she rests her hand over her heart- “you have to go through.”
Soo Young leans over and envelopes a surprised Min RI into a hug.
“I still don’t believe-”
“Believe. It was my time to go...and for that, I’m happy...It was a very serene, calm way to go...” Soo Young feels her friend’s arms tighten around her. She pulls away and laces her fingers through her friend’s, holding hands tightly together.
“So now I’m here to tell you to go back. Go back to them. Go back to him. Deep down, you know how he feels about you, and how you feel about him. Accept it, don't push him away and leave the both of you hurting. Don’t think about the consequences or condemn yourself guilty over the past. They weren’t your fault. You should be happy. I’ll always be with you-”
“Remember that.” Soo Young slowly lets go of Min Ri’s hands. Her figure gets smaller as her wings spread larger to their full extent.
“Remember that. . . Now stand up. . . and walk to the window. . .”
With a gentle push, Min Ri opens her eyes o where she was still sitting in the airport.
She sees the large glass windows where the sun was just beginning to dip over the mountains in the horizon, giving everything a golden-orange glow.
Getting up, she slowly walks over to the windows, placing her hand gently on one as she looks out and sighs.
At this time, the guys were still running, scouring the rest of the airport shops. Their energy was running low and their patience running thin. Pretty soon they all felt like bursting and abandoning the entire mission-
Changmin suddenly hears a soft voice whisper in his ear, “Not this way. You passed her. You passed her. . .”
He whips his head around, looking for the owner of the mysterious voice, but something told him that owner was already invisible to their eyes.
“You passed by her. . . the terminals. . . back at the terminals. . .” the voice whispers, drifting away in the direction from where they came.
“Hyung! Hyung, wait,” Changmin says half-breathlessly. All his hyungs turn to look at him. “We...we’re going the wrong way.”
The four others stop and look at each other, wondering what on earth Changmin meant with that statement.
“Let’s go back...” Changmin says to them, catching his breath. “Back at the terminals.”
“But Changmin, we went there before don’t you remember, we saw no one ther-” Jaejoong starts
“Please. Please. Just one last time...” Changmin begs.
The others sigh.
“Well alright, come on let’s go!” Yunho says as they rush down the corridor.
Pretty soon they come up to the terminals again. Terminal 9. . .Terminal 8. . .Terminal 7. . . Terminal 6. . . Terminal 5. . . . . . .
Changmin spotted her first, ironic since he has the worst eyesight of all. He skids to a stop, surprising the others alongside him as well. They look at him quizzically, seeing his eyes soften and facial features relax, then follow his fixed gaze over to the glass windows of the terminal, over to where they see a figure standing by the windows, looking out towards the sun.
And realize they’ve found her.
Changmin starts first, walking over in a slow, calm stride. It seems as if all the noise in the place muted so only his echoing footsteps could be heard. Slowly behind him the others follow, letting Changmin take the lead for once.
His gaze on her back never falters and as he forces down a swallow, his lips part as he starts to sing (fyi: I’m using the english translation of their song “Don’t Say Goodbye”)
“I can’t read your feelings since you try not to meet eyes with me,
Because I feel like a lost child, I just wait”
Junsu’s, Yoochun’s, Yunho’s, and Jaejoong’s eyes widen as they look at each other, trying to figure out where these lyrics came from. Meanwhile Changmin’s sweet voice continues,
“I won’t allow it - your lie of wanting to separate,
Look in my eyes and tell me,
It’s not…it’s not the truth”
Finally, the others catch on, realizing where the song is coming from and all join in for the chorus-
“Don’t say goodbye, you are my everything to me,
My tired days only look for you,
Like a pond which won’t dry, I’ll love you,
You are my love, you are my soul”
They all see the person turn around. Large eyes and open mouth, then hands that fly up and hide her mouth. Her body slowly leans back against the glass of the window.
Changmin locks eyes with her and steps closer, closer, closer- never blinking or looking away.
They reach the end of the song, letting Changmin sing the last parts solo as he gently reaches over and lowers her hands from her mouth-
“Let’s not let go of each other, and we’ll make it through,
Cause you are my everything to me,
Cause you are my everything to me”
The silence envelopes them all again. Changmin remains standing in front of Min Ri, eyes fixed on her, Jaejoong flicks his tongue over his suddenly-dry lips, Yunho looks down at the floor, Yoochun clears his throat uncomfortably, Junsu blinks over his suddenly-wet eyes.
Min Ri lowers her eyes to the ground. She never expected them to actually come here. Two small tears make their way down her cheeks.
Changmin goes to say something but he’s mute. After the song, anything from his mouth seemed irrelevant. All he can do is gently squeeze Min Ri’s hands.
Junsu was the first to break the silence.
“Min Ri ah~” he says in a soft, small voice
Min Ri looks up. A quick, darting glance up at Changmin, who’s still staring down at her, then at Junsu who spoke to her. She smiles at him.
The others see her tears. Jaejoong immediately comes over and stands behind Min Ri, placing his hands on her shoulders and squeezing them reassuringly as Yunho wipes away the tears on her face, Yoochun giving her a smile that slowly grows and gently patting her arm.
“Don’t cry anymore Min Ri” Junsu slowly walks closer and strokes her cheek.
She lets out a small laugh, her eyes again going to the ground in embarrassment.
“Why did you leave us?”
She looks up to see a -rather cute- pouting Yunho looking at her.
She licks her lips and opens her mouth to answer. It was time to be truthful. No more running away.
“I-I..”
“Ah, let it be for now, the girl must have her reasons. Right now, she’s here and that’s what is important” Yoochun grins.
They stay there a moment longer, near the window.
Throwing a look at the darkening sky, Changmin sighs and says, “Well, shall we go home?”
“Home...” Min Ri murmurs, finally looking up at Changmin.
A genuine smile slowly spreads across her lips.
"Yes, let's go home..."

O-kaaay guys, so after this there will be one more update and LC will -technically- be finished.
But here's the thing- I was thinking about continuing this in a sort of sequel- the next LC sequel will be set in the month of December, with the guys and min ri over in japan, with various incidents and episodes that arise.
