I have to admit that this story was a happy accident, including the name thing. I didn't work through all the Doctor's motivations entirely. I just aimed to explore his uncertainty about the transition and the sudden life-changing choice he just made. But in retrospect, I think his sadness about his name is twofold. First, he's not sure where he stands with Rose and more to the point whether she would want the commitment/intensity/etc. that telling her his name would imply. Second, I think he mourns the fact that telling her would not, in itself, convey the same depth of connection that it would have if he was still fully Time Lord (insert speculation about the psychic/timey-wimey aspects of Time Lord relationships here). Perhaps he even mourns the fact that half of him, a part of himself that he has lost, will never tell her.

On the other hand, it may be taken to imply a dawning--or lurking--sense of mortality. *insert vague future story hint here*

In my heart, Jackie Tyler will always be a badass. :)

This is so lovely. Gah. I love the way you've examined the little changes that the Metacrisis left, the way they affect a man who is the same and yet not the same. And the part about his name - wonderfully bittersweet.

Also the idea of Jackie nagging her way into a job at Torchwood is hilarious and awesome!

That song has always made me cry, a little, when no one was looking and this fic fits it well. The dynamic between Pete's World Rose, who is very definitely not his Rose anymore, and Cloen is amusing and Jackie as Torchwood employee is great. Thanks for posting. : )

This was lovely. I love how tentative the Doctor is at first, and his frustration at his name, and how accepting Rose is.

(Also, big LOL at Jackie working for Torchwood and drugging the Doctor!)
