As for making bentos, I actually just kind of learned it off the cuff from looking at pictures of Japanese cookbooks on the computer.
However, one of the main things I've learned is to make a very good sticky rice for shaping. A number of good recipes are available on-line for making sumeshi rice, so I would start with a search there.
As for the "fancy" aspects, I just experimented with cutting techniques. If you're just starting out, I recommend making a layered sandwich and using a cookie cutter to get a cute design.
Hope that helps a little!

Keronekosama is just too kewt. I love Trigun and anything related to it!
Thank you for the compliment on the charm bracelet. My favorite is a tie between the s'mores and the lemon pie slice.

I didn't make the chain link bracelet this time around, though I have done so in the past. As for the trinkets, I sculpted them out of clay, inserted wires and then a little circle hook end and baked them for about 15-20 minutes. It was really fun!

The bracelet was fun too! I just finished another little craft item that I'll be taking pictures of tomorrow.
