Rapid heartbeat, bated breath.

Control. Steady. Relax. Breathe.

How a single person was able to turn the steady, calm, collected Kyuhyun into a pile of goo, he would never know.

Breathe, Kyuhyun, breathe.

Deep breath. In and out. In and out.

Come on, lady! Move, move, move! You have your purchases now go, woman! This thought and much more tumbled through his mind as the woman he was currently serving, no, wait, had served, took her sweet time moving her ample ass out of the queue in front of his register.

Damn it! Too late.

He tried not to let his sigh sound too audible but even as much as he tried, the young man at the register next to him looked at him with an eyebrow raised.

That eyebrow met a piercing glare only to receive a smirk in return.

He could only stare mournfully at the register next to his before his attention was demanded by yet another ample-assed woman.

What he hadn’t noticed were the smirks the man he had wanted to serve and the man that was serving him now exchanged.

A week passed before the man came again. He made an instant beeline for the same man that served him last week. Both earning a scowl from Kyuhyun.

He turned back to his customer. Yet another ample-assed woman. What is up with that? He wondered.

He turned his attention slightly to his left, only to scowl even more. Both men were giggling to each other like they were the best of friends… if not lovers. The very thought made him scowl even more, if that was even possible.

The same thing repeated for the next few weeks.

Man comes in, makes a beeline to Heechul’s register and they’d giggle over the newest product or gossip.

Kyuhyun had finally learnt Heechul’s name in his attempt to get some information about the guy out of him. Not only was he not able to get a single piece of information, his queries were met with a smirk and a knowing glint in Heechul’s eyes he pretended wasn't really there.

Rapid heartbeat, bated breath.

That’s what he remembered of his reaction when he first encountered that guy. He was tall, all limbs with that smile always on his lips. No matter how many other customers bumped into him, he’d smile at them, even apologising. He wasn’t even sure how a person could smile so much. Wouldn’t their face hurt?

It was his first month working there. He wasn’t sure what his manager was doing, putting him in the cosmetic department. Surely he would have been better suited to the technology department. At least then he’d be able to explain all the different components of a computer to people and perhaps have intelligent conversation once in a while.

He wasn’t sure what had happened. How that simple encounter made him fluster and blow the powder that he was demonstrating the use of all over one of the women in front of him. But he just suddenly swept in and Kyuhyun’s mind went blank. His pulse increased and he felt like he was going to faint.

What was this feeling? Was he ill? He remembered wondering that at the time. But now… now he knew better. Or perhaps worse, he wasn’t sure. He was in love. In love with a complete stranger he had only seen once in his life.

He wasn’t even sure when he had turned gay in his life. But somehow, because it was him, that always smiling guy, he didn’t question it.

“Earth to Game-Kyu! Off battling more monsters in your world?”

Kyuhyun’s mind snapped back to reality. He turned to his left to see Heechul smirking at him yet again.

“Sure you don’t need to grab some tissues to wipe that drool off your face?”

Kyuhyun flushed and quickly turned to one of the mirrors in front of his table. He wasn’t drooling. He turned around to inform Heechul that he wasn’t drooling only to actually start doing so because that guy was right there once again.

He quickly closed his mouth as said guy turned around to smile at him before turning back to Heechul.

Rapid pulse, bated breath.

He tried to remember how to breathe but somewhat succeeding in a coughing fit.

Somehow waking up today felt like a good day. He wasn’t sure why he had woken up with a smile on his lips. Perhaps it was the dream he had.

He wasn’t entirely sure that dream was something he should be too pleased about seeing as it was never going to happen, but nevertheless it made him very happy.

“Hi, may I help you?”

“Hi!”

Kyuhyun jerked his hand in response, pouring moisturiser all over his table top. Instead of the usual annoying female voices that responded with some demand, he heard a slightly lilting male voice.

Rapid heartbeat, bated breath.

He prayed it was him. It had to be. There were hardly any other males who sought their advice in this department. Please let it be him.

He quickly scrambled for paper towels to clean it up only to make an even bigger mess knocking over more bottles of some lotion or other.

“Here. Let me help you.”

Kyuhyun looked down at the warm hands upon his own. He then glanced up at the twinkling liquid brown eyes staring back into his.

It took him a few minutes to realise he was staring and possibly even drooling. He quickly removed his hands and immediately resumed his cleaning, trying to get his voice to work.

Even though he was widely known for his quick wit, it somehow failed him in this situation. He couldn’t formulate a quick or even a simple response without sounding stupid.

A seemingly long silence continued to spread and still nothing would form in his mind. He was about to give up when that lilting voice spoke up again.

“So… your shift ends now, doesn’t it? Want to grab a coffee with me?”

His hands jerked again but before he was able to even react, one of those warm hands grabbed onto his and the other took hold of the bottle he was setting straight.

“Um… how did you know my shift ends now?”

“Heechul hyung told me, why, of course!”

“Heechul?”

Kyuhyun turned to his left to see said man wink at him before turning back to his customer. At least he thought it was his customer, until Heechul planted a firm kiss on the other man’s lips, tongue and all.

He turned back to the man in front of him, smiling. That smile. He could drown himself in it, he swore.

“Oh by the way, I’m Zhou Mi. Nice to meet you… Kyuhyun-sshi. And that would be Heechul's boyfriend, Hangeng.”

Kyuhyun just stared at him.

Still smiling, Zhou Mi, grabbed his hands and began to drag him away from his counter.

“What are you doing?”

“Surely you need to go grab your bags, right? Although I don’t really mind driving you back. Just means I get to spend more time with you.”

Zhou Mi winked at him before pushing him towards the staff door.

He quickly grabbed his bag and coat and hurried out, wondering if Zhou Mi was still there.

As he swiftly approached the door, he noticed that Zhou Mi was indeed still there. He tried to slow his pace to appear as though he wasn’t eager to rush to his side but somehow his legs wouldn’t respond.

“So… how about the coffee shop you usually go to? It seems to be your favourite.”

Kyuhyun stared at him in wonderment. Just how did he know that?!

Zhou Mi winked at him again. “We have all the time in the world for your questions.”

He lightly tapped Kyuhyun on the tip of his nose before taking one of his hands and holding it in his before dragging him out.

Kyuhyun couldn’t stop the smile from forming on his lips as he thought about it. All the time in the world.

Somehow working in the cosmetic section in the department store didn’t seem so bad after all.

And it seems he had received an early Christmas present this year too.
