summary || six short drabbles revolving around six members.

simplicity || (179w)

Donghae doesn’t like complications or complexities. He likes to live, as far as possible, as simple a life as is possible in this modern age. He doesn’t like Seoul with its skyscrapers and heavy traffic. He prefers Mokpo with its quaint old farmhouses and dirt paths. He doesn’t like Bonamana that much because the auto-tune gets on his nerves and thinks No Other is much better, but apparently the company doesn’t think so.

The only complexity Donghae puts up with is Hyukjae. He knows that humans are complicated, but Hyukjae is just the right amount of complicated, and Donghae is thankful for that because Hyukjae is a reminder to him of the dangers of the entertainment industry; he can lose Hyukjae any minute, and that just makes Donghae even more determined to hold Hyukjae even tighter.

When the day comes that Super Junior really goes their separate ways, it only occurs to Donghae when he finds himself walking away from Hyukjae, not the other way around, that he is more complicated than he ever made himself out to be.

photography || (100w)

Photography, Sungmin thinks, is one of the only ways to walk down life once more, the only other way he can think of being singing. Photographs immortalize the important milestones in life. He flips through his photo albums, and struggles to remember when Heechul’s hair was red and why his own hair is pink. As he looks at the candid photo Donghae took of Siwon reading, Kyuhyun saunters into the room, all white hair and wrinkles, and kisses Sungmin, and Sungmin realizes that photographs aren’t all that important when all he wants to do is to live in the present.

dance || (150w)

Hyukjae isn’t that sure what made him enter the world of dance, but he suspects Junsu and Sungmin have a lot to do with it. Junsu has always had dreams of being known all over the world, and Sungmin has always been attention grabbing, and all Hyukjae ever needed to do was to follow them. Not all the way though, because he can’t sing to save his life.

As he goes onstage for the international dance awards he realizes that he may not know why he dances but he does know what dance means to him. It means friendship and hard work and joy and trust and security. He looks at the audience and there in the front row Sungmin and Junsu are cheering like fanboys as the emcee reads out his name, and Hyukjae bites back the urge to laugh at them as he steps out into the spotlight.

contact lens/mask || (92w)

Ryeowook has beautiful eyes, Yesung thinks, and he cannot begin to fathom why Ryeowook likes to put coloured contact lenses when his eyes can shine through the plain ones as if they are stars.

Ryeowook thinks that it is odd for a guy to have shiny eyes and tries to cover them up with grey lenses even though the fans tell him that the love his eyes. He masks his eyes just as he masks his face with flawless makeup and masks his life with a finely threaded web of beautiful lies.

erase|| (117w)

Jongwoon occasionally wonders what would have happened if he had refused to go to Seoul for the auditions. He has always been an abstract person and one day he draws a map of the path he never stepped on.

As he compares the two routes he decides that the path he never embarked on is simply his current journey with most of its details erased, because there are so many unknowns in the forking of the ways that he doesn’t really know how to tell them apart. But one thing he knows - the road he left behind is more faded than his current one.

He smiles, then erases the pencil sketch he has made on the table.

calendar || (150w)

Kyuhyun is fully aware that Sungmin has been marking off the days to his return to the dormitory in bold pink markers, because Sungmin cannot fall asleep to the sound of his own breathing. In his ward Kyuhyun spends a good part of the day staring at the calendar, in part because he cannot move. Fifth July seems an eternity away even as he watches his hyungs dominate the stage on the television. He can read the fake smile on Heechul’s face and the worry in Leeteuk’s eyes, and even as TVXQ goes on to promote Lovin’ You he sees that Changmin has puffy eyes which he is sure weren’t there the last time they met.

Kyuhyun rips off the pages of the calendar as the days pass, longing to see his second family, until it’s July and Hankyung pushes him out of the hospital in a wheelchair at last.

summary || eunhyuk wakes up in the middle of the night to a phone call from junsu.

Then I'll Come Running, a Hyuksu fanfiction.

“Aish, which idiot is it who's calling at such an inhumane time...” Eunhyuk grumbled and flipped over on his bed to reach his phone, which was now blasting Leeteuk's high-pitched laughter - his ringtone, and he was so going to change that - loud enough from the people living upstairs to hear. “I swear that if it's Donghae, when he comes back I'm going to smack him senseless.”

Flipping open the cover of his phone, he blinked in astonishment. Xiah Junsu aka Dolphinsu was reflected on the screen. “Hello? Long time no talk, dude.”

“Hello,” was Junsu's soft reply. It took Eunhyuk slightly aback. It was the middle of the night but Junsu was not as energetic as usual. “I need to talk to someone, Hyuk.” Were those tears that Eunhyuk could hear?

“Sure. Where're you?” Eunhyuk sat up, raking a hand through his hair. Glancing at the clock, he breathed a sigh of relief that he had his own room, because it was currently one thirty-seven in the morning. Not exactly the ideal time to talk on the phone.

“I'm in Japan facing the East Sea. You know 'bout our situation, don't you?” Junsu's words made Eunhyuk frown. He knew. From the day the managers called them to say that Dong Bang Shin Ki was not to be mentioned until further notice was given.

“Of course I do. How's it going?”

“Pretty decent, our lawyer's been amazing and I think we'll win. But I don't know, did we make the right move? Technically I'm banned from contacting anybody bound to SME but to heck with it.”

That was news to Eunhyuk. “I thought you were just simply not allowed to contact Yunho and Changmin?”

“Yeah, but the lawyers advised us against contacting anybody in the company... aish. How's the situation over at your side?”

“Not that good, considering that Super Junior-M's in China, so our lives got something like five times as boring and even more annoying because Hankyung-hyung's missing and he's the only one who ever could control Heechul-hyung. Huh, then are Jaejoong and Yoochun with you?”

“Yea, we're together but in separate hotel rooms. I think they're sleeping because I can hear snores from Jaejoong's side.” Junsu chuckled, a familiar sound Eunhyuk had grown up with. But to him something was different. “Ah, Heechul-hyung's still fussy over lampshade colours?”

“Jaejoong still sleeps naked? Tell him that he's going to get a cold, the weather in Japan isn't that good. Your members are so weird. And yes, the other day Kyuhyun got him a yellow lampshade splattered with flowers and Heechul-hyung was like, 'Of all colours, you just had to get yellow.'”

Junsu laughed out loud then muffled himself. “Oh please, if you think Jaejoong's weird, try living with Changmin. He kicked me so many times during the Five in the Black tour that towards the last few stops I simply slept on the floor.”

Eunhyuk raised an amused eyebrow. “But...?”

Junsu chortled at the memory. “I got his bank account number, asked him what he thought of SNSD, asked him what he planned to eat as his last meal and called him an ass. I've probably got enoug information on him to cause a worldwide scandal.”

Eunhyuk burst out laughing. “Oh my god, Su, you didn't!”

“Yes I did. I recorded every single conversation I had with Changmin when he was asleep.”

“Wait. In his sleep? He talks sense while sleeping?! I thought only gibberish comes out when you sleeptalk?” Eunhyuk was highly intrigued. The last time he'd run into a sleeptalker in the dorms who happened to be Sungmin, he had been talking about pink winged Care Bears flying in cotton candy worlds and Kyuhyun had had to leave the room to keep his sanity.

“You don't know Changmin. Compared to Sungmin and Donghae combined, he's scary. Remember when Donghae sleepwalked when we were trainees at the training camp and then he tripped over Sungmin? Changmin can talk in legitimate sentences, hold conversations and if we tried - no, if we'd tried, he'd probably be cooking in his sleep.”

“Your magnae's really something,” Eunhyuk snorted.

In his hotel room, Junsu's eyes saddened. “Not our magnae. Our magnae is currently me, if you didn't realise. He's the ex-magnae.”

Eunhyuk bit his lip in a way sorely reminiscent of Donghae. “Su -”

“I kinda regret it, you know. If we'd not sued we'd probably be preparing for out fifth album already. Are you guys doing preparations for the next album?”

“Yea, but Su-”

“I kinda miss that crazy frenetic panic to record, film and go on all those shoes like before. If only - I miss singing in Korean.”

“When're you guys returning here?”

“I have no idea. I think we're performing as Tohoshinki at the Nippon Kohaku at the end of this year. Maybe we'll return to Korea. Or maybe we'll return after the lawsuit ends. Or even longer. But even when we perform as Tohoshinki I'm pretty sure we're banned from communicating and oh my god Hyuk I miss them.”

Eunhyuk was silent. There were sniffles from Jusu's side of the line. “I know.”

“You know that X Man programme? Yunho told me he loved us very much. If only I could hear that again, oh god. And Changmin, he was the one cooking our last few meals during our stay at the Dong Bang apartment. And I miss his food and his snark and his acting-cool-and-failing habit. What did we do to deserve this? Were we wrong to sue after all?”

Eunhyuk had pulled out his laptop and had booted it up. While waiting for it to load, he leaned against the wall, phone pinned to his ear. “You did nothing wrong, Su. It was to keep you alive. I'm sure Yunho and Changmin feel the same. We're just waiting for this ordeal to end now, then we'll look at the road ahead. Listen, Su. Nobody in SM wants Dong Bang to break up. You guys are legends in a league of your own. I've been receiving tweets from ELF and Cassiopeia asking about you. Oh wait, Su, call me on video? I've something to show you.”

“Okay.”

Once they had established the video connection, Eunhyuk turned the phone so that its front camera faced the laptop screen. Pressing the play button, he leaned back. The music flowed out sweet and mellow, the pictures and video clips blending in together.

“If even one member is missing, then it will not be TVXQ.”

The video ended and Eunhyuk turned the phone back to face him. Junsu was crying outright now, tears flowing freely and bitterly. Then Eunhyuk noticed his friend's dark eye circles.

“Su, you need to sleep. You look totally wasted.”

Junsu nodded, wiping away his tears. “I guess so.”

“C'mon, let's go out after I've made my comeback. You look like you could do with a little bit of Eunhyuk awesomeness.”

“When did you become so egoistic?” Junsu complained, tears forgotten. “Heechul-hyung's getting to you, man.”

Eunhyuk grinned. “Maybe.”

“Aish, then... good night, Hyuk. Be careful of the bed bugs, they eat silver.”

“The bed bugs eat gold as well~ Goodnight.” Eunhyuk grinned and hung up.

-

Okay, the part about the bed bugs is simply punning on their names. Eunhyuk is 'Silver' and Kim (Junsu) is 'Gold', thus the cold joke.
