Got To Give It Up - Marvin Gaye I used to go out to parties
And stand around
'Cause I was too nervous
To really get down
And my body yearned to be free
So I got up on the floor and found
Someone to choose me
Kyuhyun pressed himself against the wall, allowing a couple of guys to pass by into the kitchen before once again leaning against the wall. Sipping his rum and coke, he threw a nod to a couple of mates from Calc class. His eyes returned to the living room-come-dance floor. Despite his relaxed stance and cool demeanor, he was actually quite envious of the people on the dance floor who seemed to be really enjoying Kangin's house party. His eyes wandered straight to Sungmin, who was dancing with a laughing Sunny. Ah, if only he didn't have two left feet...
"Kyu, come on, let's go!" Donghae appeared from the kitchen, Kibum in tow. He nodded in the direction of the dance floor where Eunhyuk and Henry were having a mini dance battle. He shook his head, and fought the older man as he tried to pull Kyu into the middle of the crowd.
"Oh, fine, you party pooper." Donghae let go of his hand and grabbed Kibum instead, and Kyuhyun was surprised when Kibum only rolled his eyes before allowing Donghae to drag him. He watched Donghae draw Kibum close to him as they danced.
Kyuhyun felt someone tap his shoulder and smiled at Sungmin. "Hey, what's up?"
"You have to dance, Kyu," Sungmin commanded. He grabbed the taller man's hand and started dragging him.
"No, Sungmin-hyung, wait-" Kyu said as he struggled to let go of Sungmin's hold on him.
"No. You are the only one not having fun at this point." The younger man looked around and realized that Sungmin was right; most of the guests in the party were dancing; the others were off to the side either talking animatedly with friends, trying to pick up girls, or were making out with girls. He felt Sungmin tug once again.
"Ah, screw it," he cursed before throwing back the rest of his drink and left the empty cup on a table. Sungmin flashed him a smile and lead him to the dance floor.
Sungmin faced him and started dancing, movements graceful, effortless, natural. Kyuhyun could do nothing but step from side to side, the only thing he could really draw out from his list of limited dancing abilities. He felt awkward and embarrassed, having to dance horribly in front of someone as gorgeous and talented as the man before him while there he was, pale gangly kid with two left feet. The thought of how mismatched he and Sungmin were made him all the stiffer, joints and limbs locking. His minimal dancing skills left him, skills scaling down to zero. Nonexistent.
Sungmin grabbed his hips and started guiding it to match his hip movements. "Relax," he whispered.
"I'm horrible at this, hyung," Kyu stated, close to whining.
"So what?" the other asked amusedly. "Look around you, Kyu. You're not the only one who's awkward with dancing. But it doesn't matter because they're having fun."
Kyu looked around him. Zhou Mi and Heechul were dancing together; well, Zhou Mi was dancing, while the older fashion design student was moving his arms around like he was at a rave. Ryeowook and Yesung were on their left, the former doing little steps and laughing at Yesung, who was doing a tamer but just as weird version of his flaily dance. Siwon and Hangeng were off to the crowd, Siwon copying the moves the dance major was teaching him.
"Just let go, Kyu. Give it up and just have fun." Sungmin stated lightly, smiling. He sidled closer to Kyuhyun, grabbing his hips more firmly and guiding him to move with him. Kyuhyun's breath hitched at the contact, before pressing himself closer to the older man. His body started moving, hips following Sungmin's direction, limbs unlocking, moving more freely and in tune with the beat as he began to relax and got used to the steps.
"Got to give it up," Sungmin sang as he flashed a playful look up at Kyuhyun. The taller man inched even closer before grinding his hips to Sungmin's, earning him a moan.
"Got to give it up," the taller man sang, whispering the words to Sungmin's ears.
Running Up That Hill - Placebo And if I only could,
Make a deal with God,
And get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
Be running up that building.
If I only could, oh...
"Get down from there, Jongwoon," Kangin commanded, wind whipping around them. Jongwoon stood on the edge a building overlooking half of Seoul's district, looking down and barely making out the ground below, streetlights dim and weak from the distance from his position. He heard nothing. He heard no one.
"I said get down! Now!" Kangin yelled, feathered appendages bristling with anger. But he knew it was fruitless, all his yelling. Jongwoon never heard a word from his mouth, none of the yelling, the consoling, the cajoling, the reassuring. It was frustrating, heartbreaking, this inability to help his human ward with anything. Not even once in the young man's tragic life.
Jongwoon looked from the ground below to the horizon, watching the dark Seoul sky devoid of stars, rain clouds moving into the city. A strong bitter wind blew past him, and the cold seeped into his clothing, past flesh and bones, straight to his core, which had been frozen and dead since his mother's passing. He felt the wind encouraging him to jump. Just end it. There was nothing in this world for him anymore; the only person who loved him and who he truly cared for was gone, taken away by disease.
"Don't do it, Jongwoon," Kangin whispered in the man's ear as he slipped behind him. "Live. Your mom would never want you to do this. Don't jump. Please." Kangin slipped his arms around Jongwoon and wholeheartedly wished to be heard on this culminating point of the man's life. He tried pulling the man from the edge of the building to safety, praying and putting all his might into moving the man, however improbable and miraculous it would be.
Don't do it, Jongwoon. Please. Jongwoon heard in his mind, and he associated the words to his conscience, which finally made itself heard, pointing out how wrong this whole situation was. He unconsciously stepped back from the edge and fell to the floor, weak-kneed, weak-hearted.
"Fuck!!!" He yelled, sobbing, angry at himself for even entertaining the thought of suicide, feeling so weak and cowardly, but saddened all the same, knowing that he was all alone in this world.
Kangin could do nothing but keep on holding onto Jongwoon tightly, listening to his human curse and cry from loss and loneliness. Wings unfurled from behind him and wrapped both of them in a cocoon. He didn't get to realize that he was able block the wind, helping turn Jongwoon warm, alive, for the first time in a long while.
Save You - Pearl Jam i'm gonna save you fucker, not gonna lose you
i'm feeling cocky and strong, can't let you go
too important to me, and too important to us
we'd be lost without you
i'm there, let yourself fall, i'm right below you now
Yesung entered the dimly lit bar quietly so as not to get any unwanted attention. He looked around from under his baseball cap before heading towards a table on the corner where three guys were situated. Kangin was slumped on the table, seemingly unconscious.
"How much did he drink this time?" he asked as soon as he got close enough to be heard.
"Eh. We kind of lost count after two sojus and the third bomb drink," Seungho slurred.
"Dammit," he cursed. "Did you guys even try to stop him?"
"Of course we did, man. He just won't listen." Jaehyun answered more soberly.
Yesung sighed before crouching down next to Kangin. He tapped the other man lightly on the cheek. "Hey Youngwoon. Come on, get up. Let's go home."
Kangin opened his eyes, grumbled, and turned away from him. Yesung rolled his eyes and scratched the back of his neck. Grabbing Kangin's beanie from the table, he stuffed it down the man's head in an attempt to hide his identity. He forced Kangin to get up, slinging one of his arms on his shoulders.
"Can you guys make it home without me?" he asked the other two distractedly as he held Kangin tighter around him, the other man slipping from his grasp.
"Yeah, we'll be fine. Take care of that idiot, yeah?" Jaehyun responded.
Yesung nodded and exited through the backdoor, towing the drunk man with him. They were halfway through the back alley when Kangin suddenly yanked himself away from Yesung.
"I want another drink," Kangin garbled.
"No, you've had enough. Now let's go." Yesung answered tersely before grabbing the man again and heading for the car.
"No! Let go of me!" Kangin shook the man's hand off.
"Youngwoon," Yesung hissed, "stop it! You can't get caught drinking again! Management will have your head when they find out about this! Not to mention the public!"
"I don't care anymore! I quit the band! Now leave me alone!" the bigger man bellowed before ineptly walking back towards the backdoor of the bar.
Yesung blocked the man's path and pushed him, making him stumble. With an enraged roar, Kangin threw a punch at Yesung's face, but he missed, both from the other man's dodge and his slow drunken state. They scuffled, Kangin throwing his arms and legs everywhere just to get a hit. Yesung got tired of dancing around Kangin's limbs and finally struck a blow on Kangin's cheek. The force of the punch sent Kangin to lean on the wall and he gave Yesung a dazed, lost expression.
"Now listen here, Youngwoon, coz I'm going to only say this once. Grow. The fuck. Up," the older man reproached, emphasizing each word by slamming the other man up on the wall. "I know you care about the band more than you say, otherwise you wouldn't be destroying yourself like this. Stop drinking to cope with your problems. It's not doing you any favors. Now toughen up instead of punking out.
"And don't even think about quitting the group. The fans need you. The members need you. And I need my best friend with me, okay?" Yesung finished softly but gripping the man's shoulders tightly.
The older man's words sobered Kangin up slightly. He met Yesung's eyes, saw the sincerity in them. He looked around, finally noticing the dark, dank, dirty alleyway they were in. He caught a whiff of himself; the strong smell of cigarettes and alcohol clinging to his hair and clothes. He lightly poked his cheek, wincing at the bruise that was no doubt forming.
He wondered what the hell he'd been doing all this time.
Kangin pursed his lips, and turned watery eyes to the man in front of him. Yesung flashed him a half-smile and pulled him from the wall. "Come on. Let's go home."
They walked slowly back towards the car, Yesung supporting Kangin as the other man leaned on him.
Your Universe - Rico Blanco I don't think that you even realize
The joy you make me feel when i'm inside
Your universe
You hold me like i'm the one who's precious
I hate to break it to you but its just
The other way around
You can thank your stars all you want but
I'll always be the lucky one
When Kangin was a kid, he figured how lucky he was to have a loving family. Having been caught cheating on a test along with a friend, he got off by being grounded for a week, not able to play outdoors with his other friends nor watch TV, while his friend ended up getting smacked around by his strict and cruel father.
When Kangin was in junior high, he figured how lucky he really was to get to audition for SM, to get the coveted spot and become a trainee. He was lucky to have some talent in singing and dancing, and the potential to get even better with time and training.
When Kangin got to high school, he figured how lucky he was in the looks department. He wasn't being arrogant; some people really did find him good-looking. He had no delusions of being considered gorgeous or hot, but he knew from the looks and the attention some girls gave him that he was at least attractive.
When Kangin debuted with Super Junior, he figured how lucky he was at the chance to do what he loved, singing, dancing, acting, performing, entertaining, while most people were stuck doing desk jobs they hated, left to dream and sigh with wishful thinking.
Kangin knew how lucky he was all that time, and also knew that no one is really ever that lucky, and so he counted on bad luck to make its appearance in his life in the relationship department by a hundredfold. He figured he was never going to get into the right relationship till he was in his 40s and get married in his 50s, if he gets married at all. And if he does, well, how long could he hope for that to last?
But as he looks at Yesung sleeping peacefully next to him, he wonders whether he can claim to be the only person in the world to be that truly lucky. He's only 26, but has found who he considers to be his other half since he was 22, and have been together for close to four years, with no end in sight.
And as for making it last? Well, Yesung is the one Kangin depends on, who holds his hand and keeps all his fears and insecurities at bay. He is the one who can appease his anger, withstanding it, or even giving it as good as he got. He is the one who can make his heart flutter when he sings, make him hot with just a look, make him happy with a smile or a laugh.
Kangin won't depend on luck alone for the relationship to last; he will work to make it last. It shouldn't be too hard. After all, lady luck has always been on his side.
Banana Pancakes - Jack Johnson Wakin up too early
Maybe we could sleep in
Makin banana pancakes
Pretend like its the weekend now
We could pretend that all the time
Kangin and Yesung wake to the sound of the alarm clock going off at 7:15. Yesung hits the snooze button and falls back asleep instantly, while Kangin buries himself deeper under the covers.
At 7:25, the alarm starts again. Kangin's eyes flutter open for a little before they close again. Yesung sets it for 7:30. "Five more minutes," he mutters.
Five minutes pass before a familiar noise fills the dark bedroom again. Yesung groans and reaches for the alarm clock, planning on turning it off and get ready for the day, when Kangin grabs the annoying thing and chucks it at the wall.
The clock died an instant death.
"We need to get ready," Yesung says, voice thick with sleep. He is sliding off his side of the bed when Kangin throws an arm around his waist and drags him back next to him.
"No. We're skipping rehearsals today." Kangin declares with finality. He nuzzles Yesung's neck sleepily.
"But the others will be there. Eeteuk-hyung will be angry. Heechul-hyung will be furious," Yesung faintly argues; Kangin's body heat and nuzzling was lulling him to sleep again.
"Eeteuk-hyung made us wait for over five hours last week while he slept, while Heechul-hyung didn't even bother coming to rehearsals two days ago. Call it payback."
"Hmm... I don't know..." Yesung remained unconvinced, despite being half-asleep already.
"I'll make banana pancakes later." The mention of Yesung's favorite breakfast makes him look at the man holding him.
"With whipped cream," Kangin adds and he kisses the other man, "and pecans," another kiss, "and lots and lots of syrup." and another kiss.
Yesung flashed him a smile before acquiescing. "Okay." He flips to face Kangin completely and drapes himself on the other man, before they sleep again.
4 hours later in the SM building
"I'm going to kill those two!!!" Heechul shrieked. The other members can do nothing but cover their ears and wince. Siwon made a sign of the cross and prayed for his hyungs' souls.
