Summary: What would happen between the monkey and the fish when their world goes upside down?
His smile, his gaze, his frowns all make my heartbeat go incredibly fast. Who is this he?
Lee Donghae.
“Hyukkie!” A familiar voice echoed as my heart got ready to jump out of me. Slowly turning around I saw the fishy I call friend, running towards me. Nearly knocking me down in the progress, I chuckled. “Why are you so happy for?” I asked curiously but my mind was too busy cursing at my rapid beating heart. “I-I-I” Donghae stuttered as his flawless cheeks turned beef red. “You-you-you?!” I mocked.
“I got a date with Kibummie!!”
Those six words did it. Those six words nearly killed me. Ignoring the huge pain that built my body, I forced myself to smile. “That’s amazing. I knew you could do it.” Even though those words came out from my own mouth I knew I was lying. There was no way in hell I was happy but then again I couldn’t let Donghae know that. “It’s thanks to you for being supportive!” Donghae explained as he pounced on me.
As the distance between me and him got smaller, I could feel the way Donghae’s heart was also beating fast but unlike me, his heart was beating for Kibum. “I got to go tell the others and I’ll treat you out for dinner, so be ready by 7.” Donghae muttered as he pulled apart from me. Happily skipping down the empty hallway, I could hear his hums. Oh boy was he happy.
Leaning against the plain white wall behind me, I stared up at the clock ticking in front. 6:34.
“There you are!” Another familiar voice was heard, as I slowly turned my head to the right. Smiling softly as I saw Sungmin, I curiously watched as he extended his arms. “I thought you needed a hug.” He muttered softly making me even more puzzled. “I heard that Donghae and Kibum were going out.” He explained as if he was reading my mind. “I don’t need your pity.” I snapped accidentally letting my anger and frustration out on Sungmin.
Unexpectedly I heard chuckles from the other one, as I stole a small glance at Sungmin. “You really are a fool.” He muttered but before I knew it, his arms wrapped around my neck and into a friendly hug. “You can let out your tears. It’s only me.” He comforted as my anger flew away. Hugging him back, I laid my chin on his shoulder. “Thank you.”
And before I knew it, piles and piles of tears scrolled down my swollen cheeks. Sungmin was the only person who knew I had a crush on Donghae and I’m glad it was none other then him. Finally pulling apart, he helped me wipe my tears. “What time is it hyung?” I asked inquisitively as I remembered Donghae was treating me out for lunch. “7:21. Why?” Sungmin responded as my loud grasp was heard.
“I’m supposed to go out for dinner with D...Donghae.” I explained as Sungmin looked at me disappointed. “Don’t worry hyung. I won’t let love get to me.” I defended with a strong fake smile. Thankfully a smile curved his lips, as he pulled me into another hug. “Be careful.” He warned.
“O-Oh. Sorry to interrupt.”
Breaking the hug I turned around to come face to face with...Donghae. “Hyukkie-” But before the little fishy could continue, words just flew out of my mouth. “Sorry I’m not ready, but I’ll be done fast.”
“That’s not it.” Donghae blurted as I stared at his confused. “I’m sorry I can’t take you out today. Kibum wa-”
“It’s okay.”
No it wasn’t but I have to take a stand one day or another. “Yeah, I’ll take him out. You have fun with Kibum.” Sungmin interrupted as I looked at him confused. “O-Oh okay. Have fun.” Donghae retorted as I watched him vanish behind a corner.
Days continued to past as EunHae memories continued to fade.
Day 1:
“Donghae want to go fishing?”
“Can’t. Kibum wants to take me out to dinner.”
Day 2:
“Hae! Want to go to the movies?”
“Got to visit Kibum’s parents.”
Day 5:
“Fishy, let’s go to the amusement park.”
“Sorry Hyukkie. I have to meet up with Kibum.”
Day 982647593762:
“Want to-”
“Sorry Eunhyuk. I’m having coffee with Kibum.”
Even the nicknames Donghae used for me disappeared.
Laying my tensed body on the black leather couch, I continuously flicked the TV channels out of boredom. “Eunhyukkk!!!”
“Ack!” I screamed as I rolled off the couch by the sudden yell. Lazily getting up, I came face to face with a happy Sungmin. “What happened?” I asked puzzled as Sungmin ran towards me. “Donghae and Kibum broke up with each other.” Sungmin explained as my eyes widened. “You have a chance.” Sungmin continued to say but my mind was somewhere else. Even though I was happy the two broke up, I couldn’t bear to see Donghae sad.
“Where’s Donghae?” My anger nearly frightened the innocent Sungmin. “I think he’s outside.” But before the poor male could finish, my legs dashed me out of the house. There in front of the house was a large empty field. An empty field with a random fishy sitting in the middle.
“Are you okay?” My question blurted as I reached Donghae. Sitting beside the quite one, I curiously watched his expressions. “Why wouldn’t I be?” Donghae responded rather coldly. Not letting that stop me, my questioned continued to pile up. “I mean about you and Ki-”
“I’m perfectly fine Eunhyuk.” Donghae responded as I noticed the different attitude. “You changed.” I blurted as Donghae rolled his eyes. “If you want to talk about it I’m always here.” The ache if my chest didn’t compare to the painful expression Donghae had. “Why do I have to talk about it with you? Who the hell are you to me?” Donghae snapped, my tears were at their limits but I had to stay strong.
“You’re not the only one feeling pain.” The butterflies that were always in my stomach disappeared. The way my heart pumped for Donghae stopped. Is this what people call falling out of love?
Donghae looked at me as if he was shocked. “W-what are you talking about?”
“Do you remember before all this crap, before all this pain, we were the best of friends? Do you remember the feeling of laughing together? Eating together? Getting into trouble together? You don’t even call me Hyukkie no more. Do you have any ideas on how that may hurt me? Have fun with whoever you want but remember it’s you losing a friend, not a friend losing you.” I explained. Standing back up on my two own feet, I brushed my clothes. “Good Luck, Lee Donghae.” I finished before walking down the open field.
“Eunhyuk.” Donghae cried but he was too late.
“Eunhyuk!!” He continued to yell.
“EUNHYUK!” The words ran through my ears but I couldn’t stop. My feet were walking on their own.
“HYUKKIE!” Stopping in my tracks I looked back at the swollen fishy.
“I broke up with him.” Donghae explained as he stood up. Walking towards me, I patiently waited for his response. “I broke up with him because I couldn’t handle it, because I couldn’t take jealously.”
Tilting my head, I observed him. “Kibum was flirting with someone else?” I questioned as he shook his head. “It was not Kibum who was flirting nor was I jealous of. It was a special little monkey. It was you.” Donghae finished as my eyes widened. The butterflies came back and I couldn’t hear anything around me due to my rapid heartbeats. “W-what are you talking about?”
“I think I love you.”
"W-what?!" I stuttered helplessly.
"I found out a week ago. When I was with Kibum, I couldn't stop thinking about you. You're always with Sungmin and I hate that. That's the whole reason I avoided you and was harsh." Donghae explained as a frown curved his red ripe lips.
I know, I know. This little fishy jumped out of his lake.” Donghae muttered as he bowed his head in shame.
“Only to jump into a bigger ocean.” I responded and before he knew it, I kissed his swollen lips. With not only hunger but with passion and what people call love.
