Keeping it closed

Closures have been the bane of my tailoring existence for the past year. Yes, I am a busty woman. Yes, my gowns are supposed to curve over shape of the bust, not change the shape. Somehow with these conditions I have only rarely managed to make a gown that was both easy to put on and look right. Last summer I made 2 gowns that I need to be sewn ( Read more... )

I would not be totally quick to believe that sewing yourself in was not period. I know that many of the Herjolfsnes gown sleeves were sewn up on a (perhaps not quite) daily basis, and that would be as late as the 14th century at least....I think it is possible people did have their mom or their sister sew them into some dresses on some occasions. Possible, but you're right: at a camping event, that's not a real good solution.

Huh, thats an interesting point. I was making a logic leap knowing how much a pain in the hiney it is to sew yourself into a fitted gown every day. Not to mention the wear and tear on the edges being sewn down. This begs further research.

Groovy on the eye/hook combination. Didn't make sense in my mind until I looked at it. Will be neat to see
