I participate in a few communities and I have people friend me through community comments or on one of my public posts. I am not actually changing anything, but I wanted a place where people could tell me they're friending me.
When I first opened my journal I was 100% public. But then as my friends list grew, I only felt comfortable keeping the personal posts down to just those I know.
I will keep some things public, but for the most part, everything personal will be friends only.
I can totally understand that. I find that I'm using my filter settings more and more. I know how easy it is to track someone down on the internet and I don't really enjoy the thought that anyone anywhere can read what I'm putting in my LJ, so I've been making friends only posts and such... I'm still not 100% sure what I'm going to do with this journal.... we shall see!
I had to remove some people awhile back because I found that I was using too many filters and didn't like that I couldn't speak openly to those on my "friends" list.
If someone really wanted to track me down, I think they'd be disappointed and very bored with what they read. lol

I was thinking about making my journal friends only... but then wondered what the advantages/disadvantages of that would be... Any thoughts?
