Distance is a very significant factor in latency, and can contribute to bandwidth limitations too - the pipes between Australia and the US fill to capacity from time to time.

The tests let you select different sites, i.e. local or global, to reach.

And it's tubes, not pipes. ;-)

You might just have a crappy ISP. I've got regular $40 dsl in Canada and I've got a better upload then the bottom case.

We're starting to get some better plans finally. Now I wonder whether I want that sort of speed, as I spend enough time online as it is. :-)
