One of my old layouts recoded recently.
This layout is perfect for small resolutions (800+ px), i.e. netbooks.

Style: S2 Flexible Squares
Account type: all types
Screen Resolution: 800+
Entries: fixed
Browsers: Mozilla, Chrome, Safari
Comments in journal's style: yes
Controlstrip: enabled, new
Sidebar: full
Title & Subtitle: title only

You can make the width fit your needs better by finding the bit of code I'll be posting at the end of this comment and changing it to the width you want. In the maker's CSS code it's very close to the top. I'm not entirely sure why the maker of this said you wouldn't be able to do this, because it's relatively easy --you just have to remember to make your header image fit the new width, or center it (whichever looks better with the layout).

(I'm using this layout on the journal I'm posting from. The width is widened by 100px on it if you'd like to see how it looks at a wider width. Keep in mind it looks almost nothing like the original layout so far as colors and images go.)

Closely related, but possibly unnecessary: If the new width makes your journal title look strange/puts it in an awkward positioning find:
