Resources: CSS Editors

While I usually just hard code my CSS and preview it in realtime via the Web Developer add-on in Firefox, I decided to give some css editors a shot after stumbling across two articles/posts: CSS Editors Reviewed by SmashingMagazine and a poll for 7 Free CSS Editors on LifeHacker ( Read more... )

Hi. I have a question that's not really related to your post. I hope that's okay.

May I ask what program you use to hard code your CSS? Even though I don't make layouts myself, I tend to change and edit my layout quite often. And I usually just edit it in the "Customize your journal" section of LJ, hit save and see whether I like the changes I just made. But the Web Developer add-on sounds like a handy tool, because it let's you preview the CSS in realtime. I'm just not really sure how to use it. Would it be too bold and geeky of me to ask you how that works?

I sincerely apologize if this is not the right place to ask. Either way, thanks in advance. ^^

Did you figure it out? Since no one responded to you here's how it works: download the add-on here, install it, restart Firefox, then right-click Firefox's Menu Bar and click on "Customize"; when you see an icon that looks like a gear drag it to the Menu Bar; you can just click on it whenever you want to open the editor.

Once that's done say you navigate to my journal and you want to mess with my CSS; just click the gear icon, and the editor will open up on the bottom half of the page; as you make changes to my CSS (which you'll do by adding, deleting, or just modifying my existing code) the changes will show up instantly on the web page itself. It's pretty neat. :)

I use Coda for web development and it has a CSS editor as part of the program, haha. Coda's like my all-in-one thing with FTP, HTML, CSS, and everything, so I don't have much need for a separate CSS editor. :3

Along with cercenightshade I use the EditCSS add on for firefox. And sometimes I'll use the Web Developer (due to having a lower resolution of 1024x768)
