stagesofloveNotes: Yeah, totally stole an Evanescence song lyric for the title. I'm so creative in that way. Have I mentioned it's full of angst?
It always started the same. The fighting always stopped, abruptly caught off by her fingers tangling in his hair, his lips crushing against hers. They’d find themselves pressed against walls, counters, in each other’s beds. The harsh words were gone, nothing left but the slow steady rhythm they had fallen into, her soft moans flooding his ears.
During moments like these he always clung to the fact that she wanted him, needed him. She wasn’t going anywhere and there was always that faint hope that she was doing this because she loved him, that she had never stopped loving after everything had happened.
There was always that hope that his Shannon was in there somewhere, and whoever this girl was that was in her place would finally go away. It hadn’t always been like this, there was a time when it had been perfect, there had been hope for so much more.
Then their movements would finally slow, their breath gradually coming back after soft groans echoed off the walls. As he sunk back into the pillows her would feel that perfect calm, watch her chest fall and rise, remembering that for that brief moment she had been his.
Their eyes never met. She never looked at him after, never had. That’s when he came crashing back to reality. The feelings in his stomach shifting from that blissful peace to guilt.
How could he have forgotten? Shannon wasn’t his. This had to be the last time.
Her wedding was tomorrow.
