Sometimes when his eyes are closed and his hands and lips are mapping out new pathways along her skin, she wonders about the other girls.
Lilly's not stupid. She knows she's not the first girl to fall for Dodger Wells' charms, and she knows she definitely wouldn't be the last, but as the months go by and that nagging pathetic voice in the back of her mind keeps telling her that maybe things are different with those girls, jealousy sets in. Was there a pretty little Southern belle that he whispered the same dirty things to? A sweet girl in Boston that he could bring himself to stay the night with?
Dodger is a frustrating but beautifully complex puzzle, and she can't help but wonder where she fits in. If she even fits at all.
But then he'll do something so small, so easily missable, that almost makes her believe that this could be something more than a quick fuck on a magic shop floor.
His eyes will slowly open, perfect lashes opening to reveal a clear ocean blue. They lock on hers, and he won't say a word, save for her name. The girls fade from her thoughts as quickly as a scene in a long forgotten movie, and she'll pull him down for a slow, long kiss until the lack of oxygen and need for a release becomes too much.
But they always come back, those smiling, disgustingly perfect girls she's imagined burrow their way back into her thoughts as soon as he leaves. But when she's really with Dodger? Really and truly with him, the world stops and everything fades. The world is theirs for however brief a moment, and those girls?
Well, they just have to wait in line.
