Having gone to my local store and buying some "fair trade" brown sugar on a whim, I decided to look into fair trade pricing. (The package of sugar in question was actually the same price as a name brand, which I'll leave unnamed).

Fair Trade pricing.
Some things you find are pretty darn depressing.
Out of curiosity

Ben and Jerry of Ben and Jerry's tried that in the 90's. They declared in front of cheering thousands that their execs would not earn a grossly disproportionate amount than their lowest paid workers. Something like a "modest" salary of 100 grand a year. Something like that. It didn't work. In fact, it failed spectacularly, immediately. No one at the top is going to willingly not take in millions of dollars of takehome pay. (Unless the government steps in and puts caps on it, but we all know how frequently that happens.)

yep.

regardless of what it says about people, "shouldn't be evil" and "shouldn't be greedy" isn't going to happen. And neither is fair pay for fair trade. Thus goods marked "fair trade" will continue in scarcity and mostly be bought by those who seek them out. Which is unfortunate, but that's how it is.
