Oh no. Sick babies (in this case, husbands and pets) are stressful. I'm soooo glad to hear that the diagnosis isn't kidney failure. I lived through that once (while on vacation to boot) and it was extremely heart-wrenching. Random peeing is a problem (Orbit's doing it but I suspect that she's trying to make a point rather than being ill) - can you guys install a guard over the air vent so she can't pee there?

What was up with your internet? Are you with Rogers?

We've closed the flaps on the vent and actually saran wrapped over it but these are stop-gap measures. We're thinking we need to make it less hospitable to cats and maybe, temporarily use the puppy pads like Orbit's and slowly lure her back to her box, or something. We'll have to go back to vet to get the glucosameter and maybe they will have better suggestions. They sort of implied that the new food and shots might clear up the behaviour. We also got her a new box, in case she's developed some random dislike of her box, and switched back to the litter we used previously. It's a dilemma. A stinking dilemma.

We're with teksavvy, so it's affordable, but like Rogers, only worse. Cause it goes down when Rogers has a problem and they purposely deal with teksavvy customers last.

I love how when pets reach a certain age, that household rules become suggestions in their minds >:/

Work internet went down for a couple of days and it's a BIG problem when you are a web-based business and pay a premium. Rogers seemed to treat us with the same disdain as teksavvy customers. I'm still waiting for the day when the federal government wakes up to the fact that they have actively encouraged a tech media oligarchy in this country under the guise of 'fostering Canadian industry'.

Yeah, like I 'suggest' she not rip the flesh off my thigh when trying to sit in my lap. The good news is that she puts up with anything the baby does without complaint. I caught him the other day - he had reached over to pluck one of her whiskers. Minouette did the cat equivalent of rolling her eyes, but made no real protest.

Since our #@$#@ government advertised that cell phone bills are too high, the prices have gone up. Whatever they are doing about telecommunications it ain't working. I run a small web-based business and do not pay a premium, but it's a pain in the behind (and pocket book) to try and do that from my phone! We're trying to organize a craft show right now and it really doesn't work if suddenly I can't get online.

Thanks Drayce!
I did try to have a cup of tea, but I just poured it on my left hand. Maybe a nap would be better.

Try one of the enzyme based cleaners sprayed into vent. That may break up the cat pee.

If she's not using box, it may be texture is bugging her. See if you can pick up one of the softer litters like Feline Pine or Yesterdays News. Yesterdays news will soak a gajillion gallons of pee, but you need to change it pretty well daily because of that... but you also need only use a very small amount in box to make cat happy. way less than you'd need with normal litter.

We had really good luck with the Yesterdays News one with elderly cat with similar issues.

Yes, we've been using the pet enzyme-cleaners. The trouble is getting access to the vent as, well, pee rolls down hill. :( But, *fingers crossed*.

She is weirdly - to risk kitty TMI - doing #2 in the box, and #1 in the box or on the floor/vent. The vet said sometimes older cats want two boxes, one for each, so we got her a second box. But thanks very much for the tip! That sounds like another thing to try.

Cats can be so strange and particular sometimes about what they like. and can't talk so you end up playing pet psychic. what do you WANT?
