So I have to play the clueless, self-centered American and admit since I only know a bit about white settlement and confederation of Canada (and the same about plate tectonics and land mass shifts), its shape always made me think that it looked so nice and solid and neat down at the border. Then it seems to dissipate the farther north you go, like steam or the population density, or maybe even better one of those optical illusion things where it turns to geese flying on a background.
