Really interesting review of the eternal frontier. I totally agree with you. The public rhetoric of Canada, though, doesn't seem to me to be as forcefully about unity as that of the US, so I can see how someone far away might get confused -- but those allowances can't be made for someone who's writing a book...

Thank you. I think he's very good at writing and at paleo-ecology, whereas the more modern history is perhaps tangential to his own research. I think the public rhetoric point is very true("mon Canada comprend le Québec" is not the same as "United we stand"), but factual errors which could have been caught by any educated Canadian, or person knowledgeable about Canada, should not have made it into a book. The book is worth reading though. He just needed one more (Canadian) reviewer.
