Thanks for a very informative and timely post on these two interestings and inspiring women. I think I'd heard of Lovelace before through some IT readings, but not Franklin. Both are very impressive and deserve to be celecbrated.
And let's not forget Successfull Scientist M, another important womand in science today! The sun even came out today for you... ;^)

Yep, that's Western Civilization for you: incredibly good at denying the existence and accomplishments of non-dead-white-European-males.
Some times, I fantasize about writing a history of science book wherein all people profiled just happen to be women BUT NOT REMARKING ON THE FACT IN ANY WAY as if it is perfectly normal to only have women included.
You should see the list of women who did Nobel prize winning research, for which the prize itself was given to their male colleagues.
