Oh goodness, this is just fantastic. Everything, although I wish I could be more specific, but I've been snivelling like such a girl from practically the third paragraph. I think Remus seeing the two boys in the restaurant just about did me in. Oh, and the carousel. And James downing Lily's gin. Love this. And you, obviously. ♥

Oh, thank you so much! ♥ This is my last (in the sense of final) fanfic, and I've been working really hard on it, so I'm so delighted you enjoyed it! :D

*big hugs*

Your last? You're not leaving us, are you? I shall hunt you down if you try, you know. *grabs and clings*

Well, I've said that several times... :D That's the intention, though I actually forgot the fairytale challenge. Okay, second-last. I may break this resolution, but from now on, unless a totally R/S idea occurs to me -- as this one did -- I've got to try to angle things towards my RL writing. :(:(

This really is wonderful. I normally avoid lost years stories like the plague, but since you wrote this I thought I'd make an exception, and I'm so glad I did. I love the details, and the way you make it clear they were wizards in a slightly unfamiliar Muggle world, without being ridiculous.

I especially loved the bit about Sirius going on the carousel--so sweet. I liked the way you kept repeating the bit about Remus thinking Sirius in under the Imperius Curse, as if that's what he's decided and he's trying to convince himself. It's all just so lovely, and poignant. It's sad, but somehow I didn't find it depressing at all.

Thank you very much! ♥ I'm so happy you read it: I normally avoid lost years stories too, but sometimes they trundle along and you have to write them. :( The beauty is that we know Sirius is innocent and will come back, which makes up for all the angst.

I think Remus genuinely feels that Sirius must have been influenced in some way. To me, this makes so much sense when he immediately realises that S is the good guy after all in PoA. Anyway, it's one interpretation.

Thanks again for reading and commenting. :)

I don’t think this is too angsty at all, and perhaps you could advertise this by also mentioning the parts with R/S interaction - and the first-war era in general. This is, after all, nothing like the plague of my lost years fics, in which fans of Sirius hardly find one mention of a puppy. It’s refreshing to read a fic set outside Britain and JKR’s settings, but I also enjoy the scenes with James, Lily and Peter, as well as the idea of escaping before they all had to admit that the war couldn’t be avoided ( ... )

Thank you! I've now changed the header a bit.

...up to inventing ipods when a walkman with cassette tapes would have sufficed in 1985Yay! I hoped someone would get that, because to me it seemed such a Sirius thing to do. But I won't mention that Walkmans might have been better: my daughter is on something like her 6th iPod under guarantee ( ... )

I’ve only worked all July (*is gloomy and exhausted*), besides writing a 100-word piece - about the lost years (so this is not an advertisement)! Oh yes, I noticed the fairytale challenge and thought you’d have to take part. Now I have to find it again to see what you have claimed…

I remember reading in the books that a lot of people claimed they had served Voldemort only due to the Imperius Curse, so it must have been reversible. But I admit I can’t remember everything in the books very well, as I’ve hardly reread them since I started writing and reading fanfic.

I always thought that the Imperius was a convenient excuse, which may be why Dumbledore might have ignored it in this case. It's like saying you were hypnotised, but the handful of people who really were hypnotised would have found it harder to come back again.

I'm sorry you've had to work so hard. *empathises* It's a pain, isn't it? I finished this when I was supposed to be getting on with one of the three enormous jobs I've somehow acquired while I wasn't looking.

I've been a bit sketchy with LJ, so I'll go and have a look at your journal now. :)

This was wonderful, though it did make me long for France. Lovely (and sad!) memories throughout and I can't possibly pick my favorite part.

Thank you! ♥ Well, the whole story was conceived in France, though it's been a long time in the writing... :( I tried to tone down some of the more obvious references, so nobody'd know exactly where I went a few weeks ago!

Ah! *jealous* That makes your trip away that much better, imo. I think I know where you were. :D

Not very hard! Ironically, there were a pair of absolutely archetypal R/S boys on the trip home, with their iPods and so on... I couldn't keep my eyes off them, which is where the awful staring woman comes into the story.
