Jervaulx Abbey

Yesterday the sun did shine, so I jumped in the car and headed for Jervaulx Abbey, being on something of an abbey kick at the moment. This one's onwed privately, and is much more the picturesque ruin in the garden that I imagine Rievaulx was before English Heritage got their hands on it and sterilised it - there are plants growing on bits of it, ( Read more... )

It looks a gorgeous place, Helen! I'll have to put that on my list of places to visit next time we're in the UK. Blue sky too - are you still having decent weather over there, even though it's November?

It's beautiful, although a bit in the middle of nowhere - right up in the dales, near Leyburn. Lovely part of the world though.

We're having a bit of an Indian summer, although it's been a bit up and down the last few days - the weekend was lovely, Monday was gloomy, yesterday was warm and sunny, and today it's gloomy again, and windy. But I'm off to work any minute, so I don't mind much.

I adore Jervaulx Abbey, it has such a beautiful atmosphere, so peaceful. I could spend hours just sitting there.

I often wondered who lived in that house, and if they'd feel generous enough to give it to me. I'd even settle for the Abbey Cottage next to Rievaulx so I could have an abbey in the back garden (though I'd prefer Jervaulx!)

I may pay a visit myself this weekend as I'll be staying nearby at Hawes. I hope the weather holds, though it doesn't look promising.
