Silly Cues

I usually tend toward pretty conventional cues or commands for behaviors I actually want the dogs to do (sit, heel, etc.), but we've got a few odd ones.  Kyah does a "curtsey" instead of a "bow" because she had trouble distinguishing between "bow" and "down" although that's not that unusual.

The current odd one is Rory's cue to go in her ex-pen or ( Read more... )

Cute!
I have nothing fun like that. I guess Ruben has a "can you dance?" cue to get up on his back legs and spin.

But nothing too strange.

I do use some pretty unique hand gestures for signals tho. Some were just odd defaults. Like slamming my outer thigh to get Razor to drop. Probably born of Frustration...lol...

LOL. I can see you unable to wear shorts after practicing a drop on recall with your red boy!

If I say "Who's there?" to Emma, she will growl and start hopping/bouncing forward on alert. It's very cute.

That reminds me of the sheltie I had when I was a teenager. I somehow trained him to do a watchful/suspicious bark if I hissed at him. Quite useful for walking at night because he sounded a lot bigger than his 15lbs!

my sheltie Hannah, if we are eating she does this cute little growl kinda thing to get our attention then we say "I can't hear you" and she barks more and whines more and does her little hannah dance, its rly cute=]

I love when dogs have the little dancing feet moves, especially with a soundtrack!

I'm teaching Roper to crawl backwards, and I'm calling it "be a crab".
I taught my old cocker bitch to put her foot on the dog on her left. I say "who's your buddy?" and she taps that dog. Originally, I taught her to do it on both sides, and for the dog on the right, I'd say "who do you hate?". I taught Mayzie to stand on her hind legs, and its called "High Ho Silver!". That's all I can think of right now.

The crab crawl sounds very cute and love the cue. The High Ho Silver is nice, too. Kyah used to jump up and down at the door hoping it would open. Her cue for that became "do the hippy-hop" -- how embarassing for the poor girl!

When I ask Finesse if she's "sad that everyone thinks she's a border collie?" she lays down and puts her chin on her feet. I've been meaning to teach her to do some sort of reverse bow to show off her stump - "show them you're an aussie"

Maybe you could teach her to put her feet over her face if someone asks if she's a border collie. Or roll over and play dead to that cue! Oddly, I'm being asked if Rory is a BC, so I'll need to come up with an answer for her, too. I looked at Finesse's pedigree, and our girls are related by bloodlines as well as cuteness.
