We only have one ticking clock in the house and it's in the kitchen, actually. But my insomnia is chronic and deep, and I have meds for it... but the meds don't make me sleep like the dead. They make me sleep like a normal person, so loud noises still wake me up.
I've thought about it, but the threshhold of the door is raised from the floor and I'm not sure it would work. Secondly, one of us would certainly trip over it in the dark (we have black out curtains & shades). I wouldn't wake up enough to remember it and would likely hurt my foot on it. We've never had anything like that before, and Andy gets up much earlier than I do most days.
The door often opens only very slightly - half a centimeter - and then thuds once a minute or so against the door jamb. In worse pressure changes, it slides open past the metal surrounding the hole in the jamb and the latch on the handle clicks out which is insanely loud for unknown reasons. That wakes me up and freaks me out the most. The thudding keeps me from sleeping.
I know! I keep telling the wind that too! I'd like to have leaves on the trees until October, plskthx. I don't need them all being blown off a month early. I have to stare at bare branches for long enough through the winter to loose them so early. ;_;
Makes sense to me. Oddly enough, many of the trees around here appear to still have their leaves but I'm scared to go look at our venue. We'll have to, though. Our officiant (UU minister who is also a family friend) wants to go check it out with us sometime soon.
Can you go to the hardware store and get a little latch thing? A loop to attach on the wall, and a hook guy to attach to the door. Then you could maybe shut the door, hook the latch, and the latch would hold it in place so it wouldn't slide open? It might not work depending whether the door opens in or out, but still, there's got to be something small and simple in a hardware store that will solve this problem!
Or, would it work to just leave the door wide open? (Open doors at night can freak me out--I have to shut all the closet doors in our bedroom before turning out the light--but we've started leaving the bedroom door open and it's been okay.)
Try weatherstripping your door. You can get 1/8-1/2 inch foam strips to pad the door jamb so that it won't be so loud. If you get the weatherstripping at the right thickness, it will compress slightly when you close the door and the door won't move. But if it is too thick, it will interfere with the door closing fully and the door may not latch fully. The door kits normally have an adhesive strip, so you don't need any tools and they can be installed quickly.
