You write their interaction so beautifully, with just the right blend of humor and seriousness. OC describing the colors to Alec is so completely heartbreaking and kind.

How do you write a fic that has me smiling despite the tears in my eyes? This really shows how young Alec is in terms of experiencing the world, and how f*ed up the Manticore scientists were.

I'm really glad this fic kinda worked both ways in that regard, because as fun as Alec is a big component to him (and to all X5s) to me is a big-o-load of sadness...
