2nd Night [video/action]

[Without any fuss at all, a small, nicely engraved sign appears outside of House 21. Translated, it reads: Little Bird Detective AgencyWho knows if Odin can even see him here, but orders are orders, so Loki will continue to seek out evil spirits living among humans. He'd been hoping to get home before this, but he can't ignore his job forever ( Read more... )

OH! Mine too!

And there were plays and theater, and video games and arcades, and tons of vehicles to race, helicopters to fly, museums to visit -- all sorts of great stuff!

What like protests? I really don't think they'd care. If anything, I'm sure that would merely amuse them. But you're welcome to organize it if you'd like.

It depends on the kind of protest. Hearing that they had drafts here made me wonder if refusing to fight at all would force the Malnosso's hand a bit. But the problem would be in convincing all of the draftees to let themselves get killed, of course.

It doesn't. Plenty of the draftees have refused to fight.

Not enough. Not nearly enough! The number of people who refuse to fight has to cripple the effectiveness of the fighting force.

That seems stupid. Why not just go the other way and have all the fighters sign up some petition saying that they'll fight willingly so long as kids or whatever aren't signed up against their will?

Asking for a volunteer army from the start seems like common sense, but for some reason or another, the Malnosso have neglected to listen to people who've offered. Maybe there are criteria for certain drafts that we don't know about, but until our captors decide to share information with us, their actions will just seem like nonsense.

Or more likely, it's all just another form of experimentation. Mad scientists are prone to things like that you know. If they find kids who have a high learning curve, what would it matter to them if they die? The Malnosso just revive everyone anyway.

You could be right about that. But I've gotten the impression that the draft's main purpose has less to do with experimentation and more to do with warfare. Mad scientists or not, there is a logical brain behind the functions of this village, and I doubt it would willingly risk military operations for the sake of an experiment it could conduct in its own time.

[Laughs softly.] Don't count on it.

If they're all that logical and such, then why don't they just stick to fighters? If they have the capacity to drag people from other planets and time periods and even alternate versions of the same world, it should be really easy to pick which fighters to have fight or not.

But if I understand correctly, the Malnosso have no control over who's brought to this world. They only place us within the barrier.

Then how do we get here?

That seems to be the big question.

[Shrugs.] Given the experiments they do cause, they'd have the power and intellect to go off and organize who fights in a reasonable way. That they don't seriously implies that they do not want to, probably for some experiment rather than life or death necessity.

Well, that's certainly a valid theory. [And one that may never be confirmed or denied, at this rate.]

You know, we've been speaking for some time, but I don't believe I know your name.
