AJ has started to rebel..like a two year old! He started spitting at us and his teachers and now has moved on to hitting and throwing and spitting. He's multi talented in a bad way. It would be sooo easy to just let day care deal with this but that doesn't help his bahavoir at home and is rude. Although I get the impression thats what other parents ( Read more... )

No what you're doing is right! I hate to tell you this but the "Terrible Twos" is Not 2 years old but truly two years of their lives. from about 18 mos. to 3 1/2. But I do have a suggestion - SEND HIM TO ERNIE! You'd get a break and Ernie would get a real appreciation for True parenting. Keep up what you're doing tho . there's a learning curve and persistence and consistency will pay off. I also never spanked my kids (the three youngest . . .took me awhile to catch on) I only spanked when they would place themselves or others in serious harm - it was a way to catch their attention quickly to stop anyone from getting hurt.

I think if ET got AJ they'd have too much fun together! So far the over and over and over trick has done it. Ohh and he has learned that apologizing and/or being good might lead to a mcdonalds trip where he can get his favorite apple juice :) Now he apologizes every time we are in the car.

I can't believe that you would even think about hitting a baby!

I would never hit a child! Hello-I don't even hit by dogs, cats or even pooh bear. Seriously doing searches on baby websites makes it seem like spanking is the only way. Kind of odd considering shows like nanny 911 use time out only. We finally mastered time out-one minute, he gets up and walks away he starts over. So far we have at least curbed standing and jumping on the couches...can't wait to see what else he thinks of!

I didn't either. The "spanking" was a pat on the butt to get their attention and short of grabbing them, it did succeed!
