REQUESTING ADVICE: TAXES

Apr 01, 2008 01:14

Greetings,

I'm gearing up to get my taxes done.  I've all the forms, but frankly I'm a bit nervous about tackling the task alone.  Can anyone recommend a tax software, etc. to use?

Also, what's this about state taxes being different?

I'm afraid I'm off the map without a paddle.  Anyone have any advice?

My thanks,
David

I've been using taxcut online the last few years and it works out pretty well for me.

I get my taxes done at H&R Block, and they will find EVERY POSSIBLE deduction/item that will get you money back. They have a downloading $25 coupon on their site.
The downside most people complain about with them is that it's like $50 per tax form, but instead of paying upfront they'll take it out of your return and they are pretty thorough and everytime I've gone there they're really friendly.
I hear their online service is good, not sure about Turbo Tax.

I do know I was dumb to never claim ALL my tuition including loans on previous taxes. I would have gotten so much more money back since loans count as you paying for tuition so that's why I've been going to them as opposed to doing it myself/let relatives do it.

Hope this helps.

This is Lauren btw, I had added you to my f-list a while ago.

PS- Dirty Mexican mentioned you had really wanted to go to Anime Boston. Rest assured, it was nothing special/fancy. You didn't miss much, well, we did have fun ghost vids/human tetris on YouTube.

H&R Block's online service is Taxcut. The box version offers more information when you're filing taxes than the online version. While you do have to pay for it, they do guarantee that if the screw up your loan, they'll pay for all the fines.

I just wanted to thank you for your advice.

Hope this tax period went better for you than it did for me.

I didn't really want to go to Anime Boston, but I did want to see the Pillows. I really liked their work in FLCL (which may be a misnomer, since I think FLCL took pre-existing songs and based the animation around them.)

Thank you for the tax advice.
