Your story definitely works for me! I love River's attitude towards Serenity, the whole bit about molecules is lovely. And I like the thought of Kaylee reacting as a mother to the ship.

but he has Kaylee now too and they settle into each other like an in breath and an out breath and River thinks maybe bliss is Kaylee’s legs on Simon’s lap while they tell each other stories about all the breaths before.

This is just PERFECT.

Every once in awhile, in a really good fic, I run across a line or two and think, "God, I wish I'd written that; it's just PERFECT." This line - and the last - are the best things I've read in a long time, hands down. You are so very talented and don't ever think for a second you aren't a genius at this. You are - like your stories - just beautiful.

Very nice! I loved the way you slipped into that River syntax and cadence. There were a couple rough spots where I had to read it over to understand, but that could have been part of the syntax. It's much easier to hear that kind of thing from a real person than as the written word. It's really hard to express somethings outside of their original medium, because so much of it is the performance of the individual, as apposed to the word on the page.
