Classiest spam ever?

Got an email from the English National Opera today, inviting me to get into opera by attending a performance of the Marriage of Figaro, complete with £10 off top tickets. So, a mere £71 a seat... Think I'll pass, especially as I once saw Marriage of Figaro at Glyndebourne some years back. Still, at least it makes a change from the usual run of spam ( Read more... )

No, don't resist! It could have charts of all different kinds -bar! line! Maybe even a flow chart!

If you could work a way for how to get a Venn diagram in, then that would be pretty much as good as it gets, but even a standard excel model would be shiny.

Hah. Would you believe I have actually seriously thought about building a financial model for conventions (x attendees at £y reg, guest fees and other costs, facilities hire) etc?

That sounds like something that would be both useful and decorative.

Will you be weighting the guests in some way? Other than fee, I mean, so that guests that have a higher interactive value (ones that give good con) have different weighting to ones that may have a higher initial value (big names, big fees) but have a weaker interactive value.

Not sure how correct the use of the future tense is there as I'm not sure I'll ever progress this further but on the guest front, my main thoughts were:
  • Guests incur costs in terms of fees and other expenses (plane fares etc)
  • They bring in registrations but further guests will bring in decreasing additional numbers, depending on overlaps in fan bases
  • Drivers of number of registrations attracted: downwards for repeated appearances, upwards for people who put on a good show
  • Other guest revenues: autographs, photos, photoshoots etc. Based on comments from Sean Harry, a minor guest may not pull in many registrations, especially first time out, but, if they do good talks, photo etc sales can rocket

Now you've got me interested. I wonder if the video projector is being used elsewhere when the items is on...
