If NC refers to North Carolina, U.S., forsythia is there. My grandfather had a massive plot of the stuff.

Yes, there is no reason why there shouldn't have been any forsythia in NC, US.... but I just remember dogwoods and azaleas *LOL* - probably because dogwoods has been completely new to me and azaleas in such vast amounts, size and beauty completely outshone everything else...

Lovely photo! And I love the train in the background. It's almost covered, so it's mysterious and provides a nice contrasting color and also makes me think of going places.

Forsythia grows pretty well in NC -- in many places, actually; it's pretty hardy. We had several large bushes of it when I was growing up. It always says "spring" to me.

I probably was too distracted by the dogwoods, which were unknown to me before and considered the local sign of spring, to notice the shrubs I already knew so well *gg*.
