In alphabetical order, because I can't play favourites.

1. Ben Folds, Songs for Silverman
2. Sarah Harmer, I'm a Mountain
3. New Pornographers, Mass Romantic
4. The Stars, Let Yourself Go
5. Sufjan Stevens, Illinois

The Decemberists and Franz Ferdinand were definitely runner-ups, and then there were a few that I was sure were released in 2005, but I was just behind the times.

This is an interesting year for me, because for the first time in AGES I actually listened to/bought lots of CDs released this year. And good ones! So I actually have answers!

I don't have a top 5 list. I should, but I don't. *shrug*

btw (here I go all salesy) if you don't have an eMusic subscription, you totally need one. 2 of the albums you listed are on there, 2 others I'm pretty sure are on there, and the 5th, its possible, but I'm not sure. I know eMu has other Ryan Adams stuff.

Anyway, I should totally have a top 5, but I don't. The New Pornographers was good, but I was stuck on Electric Version this year and didn't get into the new one as much. Decemberists were really really good, but I don't think I came back to it enough for it to be a best of for the year.

Hmm.

I should TOTALLY have a top 20, but I don't. Now I need to figure it out.

I do think that my top one would be Antony and the Johnsons I am a Bird Now as it is haunting and beautiful ( ... )

Frack, I TOTALLY forgot Ben Folds. Yeah, that and Antony and The Johnsons would be my 2 out of the 5 or whatever.

well, since i'm a graduate student? who makes 800 bucks a month? i totally can't afford an emusic subscription. but if i had one, i'm sure i would get good use out of it. on the other hand, i already own all five of the albums i listed - so what do i need emusic for? *grin*

ah, I see. Its cheaper than actual albums though. So, since eMu has the music you love, you could get 4 albums for $9.99 instead of whatever iTunes charges (around 8 or 9 bucks for one album?) or a physical CD. Thats all.

Its like the hairclub for men - I don't just work at eMusic, but I'm also a customer (and I was a customer first, for many years!). :) So I get all excited when I think people would like the service. :)

these are in no particular order, just as i think of them.

the beekeeper, tori amos. okay, so this isn't my favorite tori album, and there are some HUGE things on it that suck more than they're good ("ireland", why do you EXIST?) but there are some that are fantastic and very evocative ("parasol", "the beekeeper", "mother revolution") and, hell, it's *tori*.

stand up, dave matthews band. omg, dave. *heart* i would love this album for "you might die trying" alone, but then there is also "louisiana bayou", and the whole thing just meakes me feel like SUMMER. also, finally the album where they used the firedancer on the cover. FINALLY.

more adventurous, rilo kiley. this album has "portions for foxes" on it. that gets it on the list RIGHT THERE. and the rest of it is equally as awesome. but, man, that song. omg.

haughty melodic, mike doughty. yeah, yeah, i give up. it's fantastic.

from under the cork tree, fall out boy. seriously, i love this album. it makes me happy in a stupid way. (i feel like this slot should really go to the ( ... )

You've got mail. ;)

I have so much stuff I want to pass around. I may have to do one of those 05 suondtrack CDs too. I love music! (And I'm still mad that Imogen Heap didn't end up opening for Tori this past summer. Ugh. She was supposed to!)

I have not bought a cd in over a year, mainly because I'm really into Pandora right now, and that's how I find stuff. Music I am loving right now: fall out boy, all american rejects, gavin degraw, ryan adams.

And Stephen Lynch generally causes me to go "I can't believe I'm laughing at this," but he is hilarious. I think everyone needs politically incorrect comedy once in a while.
