That's so weird. Something about The Lovely Bones actually reminded me of Heavenly Creatures, and that was when I really only had a vague idea who PJ was. I thought the book was blatantly manipulative as well but it was beautifully written, so I didn't really mind. I'll definitely go see it.

Ahem.

HI PIQUE HI! *glomps you*

i really, really didn't enjoy the lovely bones - mostly because, as you said, of how manipulative it was - but at the same time, i couldn't put it down. and i think that if it was going to get turned into a movie, better pj do it and make something lovely of it than someone straight out of hollywood do it and turn it into sappy-happy emotional crap.

so. i think it's a good thing.

I agree with you one hundred percent. And now I wish I could go home and spend the afternoon on the couch watching Heavenly Creatures again, because it is brilliant and erotic and disturbing and I love it.

But hanging out at work is fun too.

I haven't seen Heavenly Creatures in ages. I should put that in my Netflix queue.

But not until they're finished sending me all of the first season of Hetty, because a girl's got to have priorities. <3

I think it was inevitable that someone would make a movie out of The Lovely Bones, simply because the book was a huge bestseller. So, like you said, at least someone with skill is doing it.

My brother gave my mother the Common Cold, the Flesh Eating Virus, and a Bookworm for Christmas. He wins.

I wanted to go read the "an open letter" story, but it's blocked. Fucking SmartFilter.

You X-Files link reminded me of this. And I'm a giant dork for knowing this; a bigger dork for wanting to share it with others; and apparently fairly stupid for using *your* LJ to disseminate such knowledge.
That said: Mitch Pileggi (Skinner, my "X-Files" boyfriend) actually worked for one of the Department of Defense's contracting companies in Iran and shit before getting into acting.
I'm excited about this not because it adds credibility to his casting, but because it inexplicably makes him 92 percent sexier, and he was already pretty sexy.
*dorks out*
