Fandom heavy today.

I was irate about this until Michael pointed out that the Federal Government doesn't have to recognize him. Now I'm simply simmering with anger.

Go back to being irate. The federal govt doesn't have to recognize the marriage, but they do have to recognize the name change. The name change was done at the state level, and there's no reason for the federal governmentto override it, especially since the Defence of Marriage act only applies to federal employees. It's okay, though, because this is exactly what they wanted to happen. Now the ACLU can sue on behalf of this guy, and hopefully get the case brought before the Supreme Court. Once GWB looses and Rhenquist drops dead of a heart attack, of course.

Now I have Dead!Rehnquist in my head, and for some reason it's merged a bit with the movie Dave. Rehnquist dies with Ashcroft's dangly bit, erm, well, they're having sex when Rehnquist bites the dust.

I may not have needed the mental image, because EWW!, but the thought amuses me to no end.

I'm glad you said that because I thought the name change was valid too. After all, I could change my name to Miss Pretty Pretty Princess and as long as I paid my money to the state and filed the proper paperwork, that's what I'd be (on paper at least).
