DAENERYS & LUCREZIA: A PARALLEL
Contains spoilers for The Borgias up to 1x05 "Borgias in Love" and for Game of Thrones up to 1x02 "The Kingsroad".

They're both 14 years-old. They both get married for political reasons, and pretty much against their will. They're both beautiful, pure, innocent, ethereal. They both have a weird relationship with their brothers - though you can't really compare the genuine love Cesare feels for Lucrezia, to the creepy obsession Daenerys' brother has for her. I guess Daenerys got luckier in the husband department, and Lucrezia in the family one. Both generally waiting to kick some serious ass.

Both Lucrezia and Daenerys meet their husbands after all the arrangements for their marriages have already been taken care of by their families. Both their husbands are intimidating men of very few words.
→ wedding parties
Both wedding parties are crazy... in two very different ways, but still... no ordinary wedding parties to say the least.
→ just a child
I love how there are very similar frames with people on horses just proceeding along the hills. Coincidence: they're both called "child" in these scenes.

Both Lucrezia and Daenerys seek help about sexual matters since they're both unexperienced.
Servant: no, Khaleesi. You must look in his eyes always. Love comes in at the eyes. It is said that Irogenia of Lys could finish a man with nothing but her eyes.
Daenerys: finish a man? oh.
Servant: kings travelled across the world for a night with Irogenia. Magisters sold their palaces. Khals burned her enemies just to have her for a few hours. They say a thousand men proposed to her and she refused them all.
Daenerys: well, she sounds like an interesting woman. I - I don’t think that Drogo will like it with me on top.
Servant: you will make him like it, Khaleesi. Men want what they never had, and the Dothraki take slaves like a hound takes a bitch. Are you a slave, Khaleesi? [Daenerys shakes her head] Then don’t make love like a slave. [Daenerys changes their positions] Very good, Khaleesi. Out there he is the mighty Khal, but in this tent, he belongs to you.
Daenerys: I - I don’t think this is the Dothraki way.
Servant: if he wanted the Dothraki way, why did he marry you?

Giulia: first, there’s a chaste kiss, full of promise, like this one. [Giulia kisses Lucrezia on the cheek]
Lucrezia: that’s easy.
Giulia: then, there’s the kiss of pleasure, which begins to promise.
Lucrezia: you know them all?
Giulia: all of them and many more. Any woman must.
Lucrezia: show. [Giulia kisses Lucrezia on the lips]

This is the first scene that made me realise how many things these two have in common. I watched 'The Borgias' first, and I was quite shaken by that horrible final scene with Giovanni and Lucrezia. I wasn't happy when I watched 'Game of Thrones' right after that and found a scene that looked exactly like that one. Daenerys doesn't quite experience the same violence as Lucrezia, but seeing her cry like that... it wasn't nice. Plus, they're both talking about words/languages.
Khal Drogo: no.
Daenerys: do you know the common tongue?
Khal Drogo: no.
Daenerys: is no the only word that you know?
Khal Drogo: no.

Lucrezia: words for what, my lord?
Giovanni: for that Borgia wedding. A farce. Travesty. A scandal. A public humiliation. Oh, we’re married now.

Once again, their respective servants give them sex-related advises to make their sex-lives better. While Daenerys wants to make Khal Drogo happy, Lucrezia just seeks help to make her encounters with Giovanni as brief as possible.
Daenerys: why did the trader from Garth tell you these stories?
Servant: men like to talk when they’re happy. Before your brother bought me for you it was my job to make men happy.
Daenerys: how old were you?
Servant: I was nine when my mother sold me to the pleasure house.
Daenerys: nine?
Servant: I did not touch a man for three years, Khaleesi. First, you must learn.
Daenerys: can you teach me how to make the Khal happy?
Servant: yes.
Daenerys: will it take three years?
Servant: no.

Francesca: did he beat last night?
Lucrezia: no, but he thrusted. I counted twenty-seven of them. Thirty-two the night before.
Francesca: already more bearable. You must quicken his pleasure.
Lucrezia: is that possible?
Francesca: indeed. You can reduce it to single figures. And for the sake of one’s own endurance, I find it helps to count.
Lucrezia: to count?
Francesca: sheep.
