Maybe you could convince your dad to move there with you? Just joking, really! This would be a really hard choice to make - I don't envy you. I can't imagine you moving that far from your family though. Good joke.
I was going to go to Ireland to work, so at least this is still in the same country. Dad would go in a minute. He said that multiple times tonight...mom is another story.
I'm pretty confident that i will get the job. They only do the phone interview with people that they are interested in and the in-depth info session is by invite only, so things look good on that front.
And i'll still have the internet, so i'm only a click away :)
Maybe you shouldn't rule out Quebec because of your limited French. You would pick it up pretty quickly if you had no other choice. In turn, having French would open up a whole world of government jobs.
On the other hand, going so far away from home is never easy.
French wouldn't be bad to pick up, I don't know. I think it depends where. I was talking to a guy last night who worked for this place for 3 years and ended up in 8 different spots. That would be pretty cool. Move every 6 or so months to see more areas!
I had a cyber-friend who lived in Whitehorse for a couple of years - her husband is with the BBC and was stationed there - and she cried when they got moved south again. Claire loved everything about the Yukon, but especially the long dark winters. All kinds of winter sports - they went ice skating at least once a week all winter.
I do understand your feelings about leaving hearth, home, Dad and dog. Can't do much about Dad, but how about one of you getting a second dog? FanSee

The second dog would probably be mine.
I love remote areas, i search them out here and just drive. The fewer people i am around, the more i like it. That's why i loved Newfoundland so much. You could drive for hours and not see anyone!

In a case like this, if the job is offered, I think you have to decide whether you will regret more turning the job down or being separated from your family for a year or more.
You aren't married, you don't have any children dependent on you, you aren't even leaving an employer who can't spare you, so this is one of those few times in life when you can decide based only on what you want, not on what anyone needs from you. FanSee

I'd get vacations and stuff and with webcams, it's not like i wouldn't see them on a regular basis. I think, that if i am offered the job, i'm probably going to take it.
