The main reason why it's cheaper is because you're paying in the long run for it with service. I think the rate went up to $30/month just for the unlimited data plan and does not include any text messaging. From what I understand, the phone plans in general for the iphone are quite a bit more expensive at least for what I think is comparable on other phones/plans.
Of course, they are pretty damned cool and it might be worth it to have your phone also be inside of your itouch.
That sounds pretty close to my BB plan actually... I get 28% discount on monthly bills through Disney. The only thing is, I don't know if I do for the iPhone plan... so I'm going to have to see about that...
