Mom's Birthday Cake, the Garden & a Mystery Plant

Sep 07, 2010 21:52

I had been meaning to post some pics of the garden in the backyard but never really got around to it until now. My brother was playing with the camera and took these pics on our mother's birthday early last month.

Oh here's the cake my mom's bf bought from the bakery...

Chocolate on chocolate with more chocolate and covered in chocolate. The complete opposite of what I was planning to make. >:(

On to the garden pics!
This is our bench and the gate to the dock. (Yes, I live right by the water.)

These are the grapevines. We had some grapes earlier in the year and they turned out sweeter than last year's. I hope they're bigger and sweeter next year. And there's a close up of the rocks right under the bench.

This gate leads to the side of the house. On the left is one of the cherry trees, and on the right is... a variety of things. I think one of them is a tomato plant and possibly one of the peach trees.

Speaking of tomatoes....
This year my mom's bf planted beefsteak tomatoes because the ones we had last year were small. He was really pleased with them wants to grow them again next year. :3

Some roses. The lighting is really warm in the first one. I wonder if maybe my brother took it during the golden hour...?

Odd discoloration on a petal of this rose. It's as if a drop of bleach landed on it. What is this? This isn't the first time I've seen it.

I have no clue what this is but I like it.

This one looks like it needs a bible verse or prayer or something. I think these might be the fig trees...

While on the topic of plants, on Father's Day this year I got my mom's bf a really pretty plant as a gift...

Isn't it cute? :3

Well, here's how it looks now...

; n ;

He didn't bother to take care of it and I didn't know how to save it when it wasn't looking so well and now.... *sad sigh*

Still on the topic of plants, while I was at the zoo a little over a week ago, I found this plant I've been looking for DECADES. I also found the same plant near the park by the supermarket and this one had some ripe berries so I'm posting photos of this one instead.

The last time I encountered it was when I was living in Connecticut. I was really young and didn't know what it was so I was playing with it and the juices from the leaves and berries got all over my hands and made them really really REALLY itchy. Similar to the way my hands react when I handle raw chicken and egg yolks these days. Then we moved to Maryland and I never saw it again. I wonder if maybe this plant had started the skin problem on my hands long long ago...

What the heck is this plant!? I WANT TO KNOW!!!
