Waiting sucks.... so here's my Professor Layton collection

Dec 22, 2009 04:39

Right now I want to prepare some artwork to post on deviantART but I'm too gosh darn excited over the fact that a package filled with Layton goodness is scheduled to arrive at my door in several hours. Oh, the wait is killing me!

So, here's the PL stuff I own have because I feel like rambling.

Books! (Not for sale)

1. Professor Layton and the Wandering Castle
This is a novel set some time during the first series. I don't know where exactly because I haven't attempted to read it yet. (It has no furigana... *cries* whyyyyy!? I needs furigana to read!!)  It's a really nice hardcover book. (I was expecting it to be softcover, which is partly why I couldn't find it at Kinikunuya or Book-Off and had to order it instead.) It's 319 pages long and contains 8 puzzles.

2. Professor Layton and the Secret Book
Fanbook for the first trilogy. It didn't contain much what I was hopping for. (More concept art like what's found in the OSTs.) But it does contain quite a bit of information, lots of interviews, locations of all the hint coins in the three games, even some lessons about England's history and the concept of gentlemen among other things. There's also a quiz.

3. Professor Layton and the Cheerful Mystery 1
This manga is ridiculously cute and hilarious. Oh, so many icons I could make~ This one has the naked Layton! Has anyone scanlated this manga series yet? I'd be willing to do it if no one else has....

4. Professor Layton and the Cheerful Mystery 2
The second volume. Oh, so many more icons I could make~

5. Luke's Notebook
Cute (mostly) empty notebook which belongs to Luke. Contains Luke's puzzle notes and several doodles. More info here. (Must be member of the community.)

CDs! (Not for sale)

Before you freak out, no, I did not write on the obis with sharpie. It's on the plastic. I scanned these and uploaded the ones which were missing to VGMdb.

1. Professor Layton and the Curious Village Original Soundtrack [scans]
This soundtrack is pretty good. I played the game before listening to this. It can get a little annoying due to the lack of instrument variety but it all fits together nicely. The best tracks are hands down the "Professor Layton's Theme" tracks, especially the live version which is just awesomely EPIC!! This OST also contains the one track I loathe, Gant's Bar. Ugh!

Other tracks I love:
  • The Veil of Night (Live Version) - So beautiful and relaxing and then the passion towards the end.
  • The Village Awakens - Lively. :D
  • The Curious Village - Too bad they didn't make a live version of this. It would've been cool.

2. Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box Original Soundtrack
This soundtrack is overall better than the first. Much more variety. This time around I listened to this before playing the game. There aren't any tracks I hate, but my least favorite is "A Disquieting Atmosphere"

Tracks I love:
  • Lost Forest - Mysterious and beautiful with a touch of sadness. I would've loved to hears a live version of this.
  • Folsense (Live Version) - Similar to "The Veil of Night" from the previous OST. Sounds a little jazzy(?).
  • A Moment of Rest (Live Version) - Makes me want to hang out at a little cafe and read a book while drinking tea.
  • Theme of the Diabolical Box (Live Version) - Very awesome!
  • The Village of Truth - Gorgeous but short.

3. Professor Layton and the Last Time Travel Original Soundtrack
This soundtrack is great! The only way to make it even better is to put the Layton Themes from the first OST on here as well as the vocal version of the theme song, "Jikan Ryokou". Lots of violins and piano, which I love. I listened to this before playing the game. There are no tracks I dislike this time around.

Tracks I love:
  • Theme of the Last Time Travel - Holy hell this kicks much ass!
  • London 3 (Live Version) - I love the tragic feel to this one.
  • Puzzles 3 - Really mysterious this time. I love it.
  • The Professor's Trunk (Mini Car) - I love this mini-game and it's music. Similar to "A Moment of Rest" but more lively.... now that I think about it, they may be the same melody.
  • Laboratory (Live Version) - I actually didn't like this track much until after I played the game. This is pretty awesome.
  • Huge Weapon (Live Version) - The first time I heard this I hated it and thought, "Why the hell did they make a live version if this!?" After playing the game I liked it a lot. So epic!!
  • Casino Number 7 - I really like the jazziness of this track. I wish it had been used more in the game.
  • Asian District - I wish they had done a live version of this one...
  • Inner Sadness - *cries*

4. Paxmáveiti -Kimi ga Boku ni Kuretamono- (First Press Edition) [scans]
This is the theme song to the fourth game "Devil's Flute" I like this one quite a bit, but there's this depressing bell toll right in the middle. It made me go, "wtf?" The coupling songs are.... odd.

5. iris ~Shiawase no Hako~ (Regular Edition) [scans]
This is the theme song to the second game "Diabolical Box"/"Pandora's Box" Of the three theme songs, I think this one is my least favorite. (I love them all though.) I like the coupling song "River" a lot.

6. Jikan Ryokou [scans]
This is the theme song for the third game "Last Time Travel" I LOVE THIS SONG. I don't normally care much for songs like this but I cried really hard at the end of the third game and this song was part of the reason. I just wish the cover had been a little more interesting.

You may have noticed I don't have any of the games..... yeah..... *ahem*  I would like to have them but I'm poor now from spending all my money on this non-game stuff which is harder to come by. (I'll trade doujinshi for the games! I have tons of doujinshi but not enough room to keep them all.)
