To Burlingame for a book reading! Some pictures now, some pictures later.

Jun 27, 2009 12:23

It's been a while since I've felt young anywhere, but last night, I got a chance to spend time with a good many ElderGoth staples (including the Lady of the Manners herself, who was the reason I ventured from San Jose to Burlingame), and boy. I felt *young*. I don't mean that the people I was spending my time with were old by any means, but they ( Read more... )

You were not boorish or annoying or rude! I am pretty sure everyone thought you were delightful.

I guess you never stop feeling young or old, depending on the company you keep.

That picture of you and Jilli is way better than anything I got! Looks like your camera phone did just fine.

You got that one of me holding the artwork (whoo!) and I'm also wondering if you got any full shots of my outfit since it was asked about on Jilli's LJ.

I did get a couple of you holding the artwork, but I didn't get any full shots, sorry! If I had known, I would taken them. (I totally wanted to, but you were a stranger for most of the night, so I felt weird.)

It's understandable :] I'm eager to see what you did capture. You were taking pictures all over.

If you're in the bay area I think that can be arranged! :] It was nice meeting you, and talking to you from across the table-abyss.

It sounds like it was a BLAST! :D I hope I can go to the NYC one, though work will probably not let me, as usual. I work in a bookstore, why can't I go to a book signing? Arg! I did buy the book though, and it's fantastic. I read through it quickly and I'm jealous you got some of the lovely art! A little bird on the Lady's LJ told me my name even came up at the after party! :D

Yup, we talked about you ;D Delightful things were mentioned including your giving her a bunch of vampire songs. I forget exactly what I was saying about you, but she called you "our New Jersey Baby" ;]

Greetings!

It was very nice to meet you, however so briefly. And don't worry about feeling young in that crowd. As the Lady of the Manners so very kindly pointed out, the Gothic movement has been going on for quite some time.

Speaking of younger attendees, thank you very much for your patience with my son. He is far too young to understand that squirming and shrieking is to be reserved for more energetic activities.

He's little and I understand. If I get annoyed at all with little ones at events I try to remind myself that if the they are happily squirming, making noise, and looking around, it's preferable--no one likes an unhappy baby (I'd like to think for more maternal reasons than otherwise, but). And, I also understand that it's hard for moms to get kids' babysitters at all times.

What I do get annoyed with and have trouble suppressing (but do my best anyhow) is bad parenting, but with toddlers that means something very different (neglect, abuse, unbalanced care)...what I'm trying to say is I didn't see any evidence of bad parenting there, from you or anyone else.

I can well understand the sentiment. And, when Vincent was particularly uppity, I did my best to remove him from the room, even if I did miss some of the conversation. I am more willing to sacrifice my enjoyment of the activity that to subject a room full of very nice people to an over-excited child.

Which is very considerate of you--he definitely seemed like sitting still was not on his mind at the moment, which is (I'm repetative today) understandable. And if you think about it's not very different from us as adults--we just have our social conventions learned and a larger concept of time. But if we want to get up and look around, we do it. I don't think anyone would like to be held back when their attention is focused on everything else, even when it's necessary for their parents to do so at certain ages. I think that it reigns true though, that some children sit well most of the time, and all children have times when they sit well, but it's not all the time (... tongue twister!).
